Re: Nevada gameGood night fellow fans and diehards. I think OP will just go to sleep and dream about when he was in school and the Ponies were winning the SWC in both FB and BB. Remembering is much better than our current reality.
Re: Nevada gameJust walked in the door - I guess the positive is we scored 74 pts. Other than that, another year of non-post season unless a complete miracle happens in the WAC tourney.
Isham - what the hell dude - what is your problem? 23 min 0-4? I guess Hopkins tried to do all the scoring? 3 TO/1 assist Snyder - (11-15) 33 pts ..nice job guys. Aside from the 2 positive wins (tech and purdue) this is going to be a long season..I'm sorry to say folks, we suck but not as bad as football thankfully. [ 01-10-2004, 11:06 PM: Message edited by: Pony_Fan ]
Re: Nevada gameDement's said in post game comments that we played "tired" and that he was going to give them a couple if days off when they get back to Dallas. That's why we needed to get out of the WAC, not that an eastern swing thru Greenville, N.C. and Huntington, W.Va will be that much easier (at least it's only one hour difference in time zones). Coming off a trip east to Annapolis and then the OSU debacle, these guys are getting a taste of what NBA players experience, travel wise.
It will be really interesting to see how we do when Fresno and Nevada come to Moody. That will be a very difficult home weekend. Sure hope we can get some decent home crowds to help energize our guys when games get close down the stretch. We desperately need to put a home court advantage back into Moody. It's become one of the easiest road games in WAC play for our opponents and I think they would tell you that. It seemed like every time we got close last night, that 7000 crowd got loud and Nevada responded with another run to keep a comfortable lead. [ 01-11-2004, 04:32 AM: Message edited by: Charleston Pony ]
Re: Nevada gameWe have been on the road a bunch lately. And we have had at least one game a altitude (Nev.). I agree that CUSA will be better. Only one time zone change as opposed to 2+ time zone changes in the WAC. Also, we will not have the altitude issue in CUSA.
That said, this was a tough road trip. Two strong teams in a row while on the road. We will fair better against these teams when we get them at home. The trick is to now win at home and beat up on those we should beat on the road. We are still a team dominated by underclassmen. And we have improved since last year. We still can do very well in conference play and we are not out of post season tourny play yet.
Re: Nevada gameBHop has improved. He is not making quite as many mistakes. Isham has all but disappeared from the offense and has gone backwards from last year. Simpson is playing about the same as last year with none of the improvement in toughness you would expect plus he can't catch or hold on to the ball this year. Castro has continued to improve. Rack may be stepping up. Overall, though, this team isn't playing better than last year except in brief periods. I'm not too upset by last night's game. Snyder is fantastic and Fezekus dominated our big guys but altitude and road weariness contributed to our lack of rebounding and the standing around. It would have been nice if we could have pulled out the FSU game but I believe we'll beat them at home. Nevada is probably the best team in the WAC ( I haven't seen UTEP) and we'll play them better at home. I agree though that SMU has less home court advantage than just about anyone. I hope that the students will show up but if we aren't undefeated, they (most)don't think sports are fun and would rather go out to bars.
Re: Nevada gameHow many times in the last 5 years has a player had a "career high" against SMU? UGH - Way too many!!
I imagine Fresno is a possible win at Moody but I don't like our chances with Nevada. Nevada has the best talent, Rice still looks tough at 11-3 with big wins over Boise, UTEP and La Tech. I'd like to see what happens when they play each other. As for Moody, I am not sure why this subject keeps getting brought up but I don't see it changing and getting more than the 1500-2000 reg. folks there - especially with a mediocre team that doesn't score many points... Oh, how we miss the great Q. Kids love to drink/socialize and adults seem to have more important things to do on Thu and Sat nights. [ 01-11-2004, 11:53 AM: Message edited by: Pony_Fan ]
