This is good...although I am not surprised.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

One of those problems we're not familiar with. Kinda feels good, especially since JJ really does seem to want to stay.

This is a transient industry. Assume nothing regarding Jones or any coach across the country for that matter. It can flip in 24 hours.

I assume he's going to stay for now as the statement suggests. We'll see whose assumption proves accurate.

Interesting how both Art Briles and June Jones used the term "committed" instead of saying they are not going to accept another job. That must be something that is universally taught to coaches as to what to say in these situations. And no mr pony June Jones will stay at SMU (I know how sad you are about that). This is good pub for the program.

Jaws, it was more of a generality than anything else. I'm not suggesting he's looking at this job and I'm not suggesting that he's not looking at this job.

It's just the nature of the industry where these things happen when you can think otherwise. That's why I just shrugged my shoulders when Jones signed the two-year extension after Thanksgiving because that stuff sometimes doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. It does bring security. But it guarantees little. If the coach is going to leave, he's going to leave.

We'll just see how this all plays out. But IF you're Orsini and IF Jones' name becomes more and more attached to this job, you better hope you review that file with potential successors.

Personally, I don't think he's going anywhere. But never say never.

I still remember the JJ quote in the Honolulu Advertiser: "I haven't talked to SMU. I'm not gonna talk to SMU.."

Ruffin McNeill has formal interview with Texas Tech officials

11:30 PM CST on Monday, January 4, 2010

By DWAIN PRICE / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

What started as an informal interview Monday for Texas Tech interim coach Ruffin McNeill quickly turned into three separate formal interviews.

McNeill met for an hour each with Tech president Guy Bailey, chancellor Kent Hance and athletic director Gerald Myers in his bid to become the next Red Raiders head coach. Because the interview process was sped up, Myers said there's no need to bring McNeill back for another interview.

"It was pretty thorough today, and I would say it was more than informal," Myers said. "He had a chance to talk about his program and his plan and what he wants to do, and he did a good job of that."

McNeill, 51, hopes to succeed Mike Leach, who was fired Wednesday in the wake of the alleged mistreatment of backup inside receiver Adam James of Celina.

Myers said he has a list of candidates to replace Leach but couldn't divulge that information, other than to say McNeill is on that list.

Others who are expected to get a shot at the job include TCU coach Gary Patterson, Houston coach Kevin Sumlin, Arizona offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes and former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. Myers said he has no timetable in mind.
