That navy was too dark, it looked black, we look great now except the shoes

and socks should be white.

Agree - BigHorse.

If you're going with the 80's retro, you should have the white sox, long (C James-style) or standard (E Dickerson) style with white shoes. Far better looking. I believe Miami wore something like this in their bowl game & really looked sharp with the exception of those goofy stripey pants they wore.

All we had to do was pull the old unis & helmets out of the closets & start wearing them again. I wonder how much it cost us to have Addidas or whoever screwup a almost perfect formula??? But then again, did they pay us to "design" our unis? You guys are closer to the source on who made that decision.

Our jerseys, simply have too many goofy stripes now. Far too busy & trendy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back to the more traditional look of the 80's with numbers-only look far better & classier. Good point BH!

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Its a pansy [deleted] boring red that is blah blah blah on HDTV. SMU should find the right deep hue strong blue color and contrast with the Red Pony-oh yeah they already had that color before we screwed it up.

Why don't we try the true school colours(colors).....

I thought the Hayden Fry circa Bluebonnet bowl era blue jerseys were very close to Yale blue. They were matched with grey pants, and had nothing but white numerals (no stripes) so the blue looked very pure. As I recall, the helmet was a pretty deep red, much deeper than the red emblem and numbers we now use.

You're probably pretty close - Topper.

Gosh I love those unis from that era!!!

We had the most unique uniform in the country which combined our past with the present.

Guys, guys....
Save your cyber-breath.
The unis will be whatever JJ says they'll be - and Red and Blue may not even be his favorite colors.

:)

I still think the TCU helmets look like they were trying to camoflage themselves. I think it worked, their QB couldn't find his receivers. But really who blew chunks on their pants.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

They can mess with the shades of blue and the shades of red all they want - but please keep the white helmets and white on white on the road. That look is absolutely beautiful.

There is a reason unbiased non-SMU people put the white-white-white uniforms in the UniWatch Top 5 repeatedly.

I agree. I think most people love the white helmet, but the red ones were special. An older friend of mine whose dad went to Baylor told me that as a kid he saw SMU debut red leather helmets around the Doak Walker era. No one else had dyed their helmets at that time, and he said the consensus was that SMU was a stylish operation.

I also remember that the team went back to blue jersies for the first time since Hayden Fry in a '79 Cotton Bowl game against Tulane. The crowd went wild for those jersies when the team came out of the tunnel.

The White-White-White is the best.

Why not wear at home - at least some of the time? You just have to request permission from the visiting team.

The Frogs' uniforms looked like they were designed by a painter who quit after applying the primer.

Of course, the worst part of the uniforms is those letters on the sides of the helmet.

Couldn't agree more. The white/white/white uniform is my favorite in all of college sports, and not just because I went to SMU.

Crowd? When the team came out of the tunnel? You must be thinking of some other school.
