8. SMU: The 0-3 Mustangs made their first-round loss to Hawaii respectable, lost on a buzzer shot to CofC and then got bounced by Northeastern in the seventh-place game. Half full -- The football team winning in Honolulu did wonders for the school that was ravaged by the death penalty. There are pieces that are decent with Mouhammed Faye, Paul McCoy and Derek Williams all showing signs of quality play. Half empty -- The 'Stangs have no system, poor shot selection and the field as a whole was not even the caliber of what is an improved Conference USA The skinny -- While Matt Doherty has made amends with UNC, there is still a ton of work to do at SMU. With C-USA deep and balanced, the Mustangs have to find an identity quickly as they did not win a road game last season and this year they have only beaten non-D1 Occidental away from Moody Coliseum. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/in ... ncbexperts

He'd be a better coach than Doherty, I liked his comments during the broadcast. He pointed out the same thing I've seen the last few years.
Someone needs to let him know we played UNLV the first game and got killed.
I think we all agree Doh needs to go, but does anyone have any concrete evidence that the powers that be feel the same way? If they do, is this strictly a run the clock out situation? I would love to fire Doh now and give one of the assistants a try-out, see who' interested at the end of year and then either take him if it's a good hire or stick with the interim coach.

Gottlieb's comments reflected the way we played, so he gets a pass there. As a human being, he's pond scum. Doh isn't going anywhere till the end of next year, and to be honest, we can win enough games this year this year to get extension talk, if only cosmetic for recruiting. Start w/ Texas St

Gottlieb got chased from Notre Dame for stealing and using his roommate's credit cards and wound up playing at Oklahoma State. Doh wasn't the coach that chased him, was he?

All I know is that I haven't smiled much when I t hink of SMU Basketball!!! I don't miss games and I always support the team. I don't know what changes will be made but it looks like we stand no chance to win a conference game at least on the road! Things will have to change and it may, but it looks like a new coach could be in the mix! Go Mustangs!!!

These so-called "powers" will cease to feel the love when the 1500 attendees dwindles to 250. And it is dwindling every game - although Army beefed up attendance the other night.

That is fine but based on this guy's sketchy past, he's lucky to have any opinions at all.

honestly, I could care less what he did or didn't say about smu, but he deserves a punch in the face either way

A person of low character in college basketball circles? What are the odds?

Very true. My only concern is that Doh seems to be a jerk to folks in the national media. Say what you want about Gottlieb, but he's got a gig that makes his opinion heard by the masses.

Gottlieb and Doh have personal issues going way back. I'm not saying I disagree with what he said, but understand where the harshness is coming from.
