SMU leads off SI's non-BCS wrap up

Postby skyscraper » Thu Jan 07, 2010 4:50 pm

In this week's issue of SI w/ Miles Austin on the cover:

Kyle Padron passed for 460 yards as SMU[up arrow] and second-year coach June Jones whipped Nevada[up arrow] 45--10 in the Hawaii Bowl. The game was played in the same stadium where Jones coached for nine seasons at Hawaii. Aloha Stadium was also the site of the Mustangs' last bowl appearance, in 1984.

Nice mention for the program. Also, each team that went bowling gets an up or down arrow, based on what SI thinks will happen for each team in 2010. As far as CUSA schools:
SMU - up
Southern Miss - up
Marshall - down
Houston - down
UCF - down
East Carolina - down

Nice.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I saw this. Love the fact that SMU is getting some love in the SI print edition. The piece on Padron a month ago was also stellar.
