I'm not a huge fan of negative posts, but I feel like tonight's game warrants it.
The team fought back from 14 down with 8 minutes to go to make it a 1 point game with about 18 seconds left. Hawaii had the ball on the baseline. Dement took a timeout. I assumed that it was to tell the team to foul the guy who gets the ball and to set up a play for when we got the ball back. Instead, Hawaii inbounds the ball and no one fouls! With 1.9 left, Isham fouls a guy and puts him on the line for a 1 and 1.
Then Dement made what I consider the most critical mistake. We had one timeout left, but instead of keeping it so he could call a timeout if the guy missed the freethrow and set up an inbounds play, he calls the timeout before the free throws. Of course, the guy missed his freethrow, and without a timeout we are forced to throw up a 70 foot shot at the buzzer.
I don't understand it. It is really upsetting to see the team fight so hard to get back in the game, and then not to be given a chance to win because of the decisions of the coach.
That said, the team fought hard, and I hope we can see the same effort we saw the last 5 mintues or so for the rest of the year.
Go Mustangs!

Mike Jarvis, anyone?
Re: Hawaii Game
I agree, I try to be reasonable, but the ending to that game was just inexcusable. All I can figure is the guys were told not to commit an intentional foul, and nobody got to the ball to commit an on-ball foul. No program can afford to lose games at home in that fashion. Tonight is really a low point. There obviously isn't much enthusiasm in the program or for the program right now and thats the big thing. Clearly, we have to steal a game now so the conference isn't a disaster: Rice on Tuesday might become the last chance to make this season ok.

Re: Hawaii Game
It appeared to me that the guys were not trying to foul?? With about 8 seconds left a Hawaii guy had the ball in the half court corner and Pearson was right there and could have easily fouled him. I don’t know, maybe he was told to foul and just didn’t but.....
There was absolutely no excuse for that, none.
And that’s not to take anything away from Pearson because I thought he was the only positive about the game.
