I am sorry but I had the distinct impression that what Colt was trying not to say at the end of the game was " I could have played, but I would have risked further injury and that would have hurt my future NFL career."

Now, that is a perfectly good reason, but the Texas fans and most sports fans (and a few NFL teams), don't want to hear that.

That is basically what his Dad told the sideline reporter as being the reason they were keeping Colt out of the game. I'm not sure that Colt was in agreement with that decision...he is enough of a competitor that he probably did want back in. The look on his face as they went to the locker room after the x-rays certainly was that of an unhappy person.

OK there is no way in hell that anyone could have kept Colt McCoy off the field if he felt he possibly could have contributed. Quit with the stupid-I wonder if Doak Walker had to deal with this [deleted] when he "ducked" Notre Dame

Right Pony Power. Texas passed up a chance to win a national championship by padding Colt's stats for the Heisman voters and not preparing his backup. They have been lucky for three years by asking Colt to take on a heavy rushing load and not having a quality backup. Sherod Harris or Chiles filling in for the past three years would have really hurt and probably led to seasons with 3 0r 4 losses. Will be interesting next year to see how UT offense emerges since Gilbert is pocket passer and Ut has enjoyed much success with dual-threat type QB's for 6 years to carry them to great success. Remember the complaints about off coord Davis before VY saved his and Mack's job?

Anyone who thinks Garrett Gilbert stinks must have missed the TD pass to Jordan Shipley in the third quarter. The ball was a rope with touch and velocity.

Personally, I think he's going to end up being a better quarterback than McCoy. I'm very encouraged with what I saw.

Would have liked to have seen what would have happened on the drive had he not fumbled late in the game.

Gilbert wasn't a 5-star quarterback because he sucked.

I'll take them both.

But remember nothing is guaranteed. I think Kyle will do a great job for us provided he continues to grow in the system and understand and resolve to get better. I think the competition he'll get will help him get better. He came from a program where there was excellent quarterback coaching.

Same thing for Gilbert. It will be fun watching both of these young men for the next three seasons should health and hard work be their allies.

BTW, my connections with the SMU football program say they are very lukewarm on McDermott. I don't know that to be true. Just passing along some other perspective on the kid.

So do you think it would have best for the team at this point to have Colt in the game even though he couldn't throw the ball 7 yards? I'd love to have a "quitter" and "soft player" like this on our team!

Would they have won the game with him? Who knows. But I know they would have had a much better chance.

He had a great career at UT. Kept his nose clean, and played the game the right way. I wish him the best in the future.
