The fact that they write to their audience is a quality of a good writer. Anybody hired to be a columnist that wrote an opinion piece with no opinion would be fired.
If that's for me, I was not referring to columnists.

I suspect that the city of Dallas has more alumni from UT than any other school, SMU included. This is stupid talk...the DMN is a corporation operating in a contracting industry. Sports is one of their few profit centers, Football their #1 sport by far. So they cover the Cowboys and UT from a homer perspective, would you do any differently if you were operating their business? Say yes and you would be out of a job based on your 'principles'. Wanna be out of a job in this environment in this industry?????....Get Real

A lot of the papers in the state are probably reporting it in a similar fashion. Just like In am sure the Aurburn papers are reporting it in a pro Bama way. Just like all the CA papers were probably for USC when Texas played them. It's like one state going against another state that's all.

Reporters sometimes do. That's why editors exist. However, what you did is not a typo (misspelled word). It's a grammatical error.
Heaven forbid we should go back and scrutinize your posts. Manifesto anyone?
:) It had correct spelling and grammar in it, I believe.

UT is I believe our largest state university and it's main campus is located only 200 miles from Dallas. There are also multitudes of UT alums in the metroplex. I am not surprised that DMN covers UT as a local team. This is true everywhere, e.g. New Orleans covering LSU, Atlanta covering Georgia, Tulsa covering OU, KC and St. Louis covering Missouri, etc. We should be happy that SMU's coverage is growing proportionally with our success on the field. I have no complaints about the DMN coverage the past season.

I have to agree here, a proper paper should not show a favorable bias toward a team that does not play in its market. For obvious reasons though, Dallas has become more of a burnt orange city over the past 25 years, so it makes sense that the paper would angle the story like this.
It would be like the San Francisco Chronicle writing a report on what a shame it was when UCLA basketball was bounced from the final four. I'm sure that would [deleted] off a ton of Cal and Stanford fans.

OH MY GOD, THEY'RE FROM THE UT PERSPECTIVE!!! I know, we should have gotten the Alabama perspective, Big 12 perspective, SEC perspective, BCS perspective. We also should have gotten the SMU, TCU, UNT and Samford college perspective because it should be all inclusive. VOMIT!!! This whole thing is nonsense. Sir, you are looking for something that quite FRANKLY ISN'T THERE. If it bothers you that much, THEN DON'T READ THE DAMN PAPER. You FREAKING BITHC ABOUT IT EVERY TIME. SAVE YOURSELF THE AGGRAVATION AND DON'T READ THE DAMN THING ANYMORE. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? Mr. Pony unhinged. It's a joke.

Again - specifically reporting "Highs and Lows" of a game as it relates to one team is unprofessional and insulting for a major metropolitan newspaper. I'd say the say thing about the Birmingham, Ala. paper. That crap belongs in a college campus newspaper. Is that what the DMN is now when it comes to the 'Horns? Their campus paper?

Highs and Lows are not unprofessional to a major metropolitan newspaper. They may have different names but the idea is the same. The writer tells you what happened and provides some analysis. Actually, I think Kate did a great job with this. It was concise and well reported. If you have an argument -- I don't read the DMN anymore except online -- was if there wasn't one for Alabama, then you can go somewhere. Truly, it's not a big deal. And Kate used words such as seemingly, appeared and etc. -- oh, and she was critical of the shovel pass that was returned for a TD. I guess you either chose to ignore that part or just used the failed logic (well, they had to do it because they had no choice). That stuff is used in major college football games, professional football games, major league baseball playoff games. If you haven't noticed, with the competing media outlets, beat writers and sports writers are writing more analysis than just the facts to the game. Those days are over, and they aren't coming back. You advocate for a world in journalism that no longer exists and hasn't for about the last 10 years.

Mercy George S Patton, you sure spend a massive amount of time, energy, and passion, defending the longhorns on the SMU site. Seems a bit odd to me.

Yes he does seem to have a strong love for Mack and the cows, I wonder if he would defend the Mustangs like this?

Come on man. I know you and bighorse are both smart enough to see what's what here, so don't even bother making this a UT vs. SMU thing. Papers run a business.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
