for all those Geniuses who angrily stated they didn't want to hear anymore from me about an uneven playing field with regard to the reason Dement doesn't win. TOUGH! Hawaii got 58 out of 66 points from JUCOs and 30 out of 37 rebounds from JUCOs. Once again we have yet another example of a school which ties the hands of the Coach and we have to endure the ignorant Mob blame this mess on yet another Coach. What I find hilarious is that you take facts that prove you wrong as evidence that you are right thereby clearly deserving being called ignorant! FIRE THE COACH!

Far be it for me to argue with you Stallion, but work with me here for a minute. Let's forget where the players came from. Let's ignore - if only for a second - whether they are JUCOs, high school, transfers, or what they are "studying". Let's just look at the talent that we can both see on the floor irrespective of the source of such. Knowing talent as I believe you do, I submit that you will not state that Hawaii is markedly better stocked with athletic talent than is SMU (or, for that matter, San Diego, App. St., etc.). As such, why can Hawaii travel 2,000 miles and then completely dominate SMU for 35 minutes of a 40 minute game? If SMU has equal or better talent - again, irrespective of whence it came - why did SMU lose the game?
The fact is, your tirades - most of which I endorse - about the root problem being an unequal playing field for attracting talent only works if the talent level is skewed toward the opponent (see Ok St, Wake, etc.). With equal or better talent, why does SMU lose this year, last year, next year?
The fact is, recruiting is indeed skewed toward many of our opponents just as you submit. I think any objective person would agree with this fact. But, I likewise believe that an objective person would also agree that in contests of equal or better talent, SMU is vastly overmatched with on-the-court execution, organization, planning, and rhythm. In a word, coaching.
Does Bhop have more turnovers than assists every game because he was hugely overrated by the recruiting services or because Dement has no clue as to how to use him?

Stallion, Stallion - do you not see what happens on the court? Does UH have the talent to beat us even with JC's - I don't think so if we play to our capable level. Do they have excellent coaching and great fundatmentals - yes.
If I was AD, I would fire Dement's [deleted] right now and then step down myself.
Did you go to the game??? Did you watch Coach D completely blow the game at the end? Did you watch his players show lack of effort throughout most of the game? They looked like they were playing a pickup game at Dedman...absolutely pathetic. Have you seen his team actually get worse this year? YES!!! Should they lose to App State and San Diego - absolutely not. Did you see how much better of a coach Riley Wallace is? YES!!
Give me Riley Wallace and this team doesn't lose 1/2 the games it has lost up until now.
Granted your posts about recruiting (JC's) are valid but Dement completely sucks and I am sick and tired of losing and watching this pathetic display year in and year out. This team has ZERO heart or enthusiasm to play and there is no reason a team should digress through the season like his teams have through the years. They don't improve, their fundamentals suck (rebounding, boxing out, passing) and they can't even attempt to execute plays. This top of the key offense is totally stupid and they can hardly break 70 pts. Hop is going to turn out just like Sasser, Davis, and Hancock - zero improvement and completely out of control.
If only we had the great Q this year.

the JUCO argument is a tough sell when we start 3 JRs and a Sr, along with a Soph who is the highest rated recruit ever to sign with SMU. I will grant you we could use another JR/SR low post player, but age/experience isn't what is losing games for this team.

Fire Dement??!! You need to look a little higher--Copeland is the real problem with our beloved school. We need to make a "commitment" to run his [deleted] off.

The BB problem really is a "both/and" situation. Sure, institutional admissions policies affect talent. The upside though is that SMU has players who graduate. The use of the talent is a another issue. The Dement pattern is more than evident. What you see is what we will continue to get unless a change is made. :pinch:

WOW! SMU has 3 juniors and a senior! Hawaii has 5 Seniors, 3 Juniors and a 23 year Sophmore and a 21 year old Sophmore. Twenty years from now we will still have blind men like GRGB touting how young we are in Football and Basketball while those teams get routed by the JC/upperclassmen in our opponents line-up. Some of you just don't get it. We are playing boys against men every year.

Giving you credit that there is SOME validity to your points about JUCO's vs our perpetually young- sters; how is it that we cannot set good picks, run an offense that looks like anything more than street ball, block out on rebounds, and play with intelligence, passion and desire. Is this simply because our players are too young, forgot how, never knew how or are not properly coached now? Stallion, the point that so many of us are making is not that we are losing, but that we lose in a way that smacks of poor coaching. If you've got lemons, you make lemonade, and as good lemonade as can be made from the stock you have to work with. I see a truck full of lemons waiting to be squeezed, but no one that knows the recipe for lemonade.

Stallion - Dement can't coach - we aren't talking about recruiting - we are talking about his CRAPPY coach style that has been reaking for a long time. It is clearly evident if you ever watch a game - you are the idiot.

ESPN has Hawaii now at No. 38 in the RPI-pretty good considering all the "experts" on this board are sure they had no talent.
