Alabama was rolling; Texas’ early lead was long gone. So Colt gripped the ball, stared at his dad and thought, “It’s just a simple throw.†He threw. The ball went soft and wide. Everyone grimaced. “Give it to me again,†Colt demanded. Brad got the ball and gave it back to his son. The next throw was the same, bouncing harmlessly away. “Give it to me again,†Colt said, again. Brad did. It was the same. It was over. Colt couldn’t throw it 7 yards to his own father. “My arm was dead,†he said. The dad hugged his son. The son broke down and cried. “There’s no pain on my body,†Colt said later. “If I was a free safety, I’d go out there and make a tackle. I [just] have no strength to throw a football.â€" So do you think it would have best for the team at this point to have Colt in the game even though he couldn't throw the ball 7 yards? I'd love to have a "quitter" and "soft player" like this on our team! Would they have won the game with him? Who knows. But I know they would have had a much better chance. He had a great career at UT. Kept his nose clean, and played the game the right way. I wish him the best in the future.
Then his dad should be more careful in what he says to TV reporters.
I won't argue that, but I think some of us need to cut Colt some slack.

This board has far too many middle-aged armchair quarterbacks who never even played croquet passing judgement on a kid like Colt McCoy.
He's the winningest QB in NCAA history and completed 75 percent of his throws, he dosen't have to apologize or explain himself to anyone. The idea that he ducked the Tide is moronic at best.

Waah, Colt had a booboo and Texas failed to beat the only good team that they played all year.
$5 mln. What should they have paid Mack Clown if he actually coached?

I agree. The Big 12 is a joke, right?

[quote="smuuth"]Right Pony Power. Texas passed up a chance to win a national championship by padding Colt's stats for the Heisman voters and not preparing his backup.
Agreed..the attention/prestige a Heisman brings to the school sometimes "takes over". There were plenty of opportunities to get Gilbert more reps during the regular season
