I do not know what CJ has or has not done for SMU since his playing days. I am not in that loop. However, I would think that any support he would give to SMU would be done behind the scenes because of his position with ESPN. Opinions that he has done nothing are really just uninformed speculation. Just because he is a former player does not mean he has to rah rah us on TV when we actually did suck as was evidenced on this board. Any such TV criticism I would hope was just more catalyst for the SMU administration to get something positive done.

Lou Holtz is always supportive of Notre Dame, even when they suck....He had them in the national championship game this year in the pre-season...

I would expect James to step up a bit as we get better, but I agree he acted embarrassed about SMU and that is wrong.

Nothing James has said is even 1/4th as bad as each one of you hypocritical "SMU Fans" has said on this board a thousand times. We sucked. Changes had to be made. Changes that should have taken place 5 years after the DP dragged on for 20 years. I bet not a single one of you can come up with a single negative but untrue statement the guy made. Have any of you ever paid attention to what Michael Irvin and the rest of the Miami alumni have said about the Miami program when it even lost a game they thought they shouldn't(see BYU). How about the OU program. USC? Zach Thomas and several other Texas Tech alumni made highly critical statements of the recent firings of Leach-I don't agree but they earned that right. A Proud Alumni stands up when it sees substandard performance in a Football Program-I should say most because many SMU Alumni sat on their [deleted] and said nothing. I'd trade all these alleged "SMU Fans" for one Craig James.

The last person I would ever want to be compared with is Michael Irvin.

I think that like familiy matters bad publicity is best saved for in-house...

I am all for complaining and [deleted] on ponyfans and to the right places, but when in public it is better to say nothing than something negative...

I also like how you liken yourself to Craig James, good analogy...I see a lot of similarities...

Again, I don't have a problem if James criticizes the university for what it should have done and whatnot. However, I believe he abused his platform when he is on ABC/ESPN and throwing jabs at the school. That's just not the way to do it.

If the Tech players were quoted through media sources, that meant they were sought out. That's a difference.

Now, I did read the story getting alumni reaction the day Bennett was fired and James was quoted in it. I found his comments in that story to be respectful and something that you would expect.

Deep down, I know James is proud to be an alum of SMU. I just believe his methods were not the best.

He's a big boy. He can take that just like any of us can.

Look, SMU was so bad for so long it is not surprising that James took the "let me laugh first before they laugh at me" approach. It's common, and it may not sit well with everybody on this board, but it was well deserved. Enough of this nonsense about James being a "turncoat" or whatever. That said, I am not one of those in the camp of taking a legacy player for the sake of the legacy, especially on the heels of this debacle...if he can play, bring him on. If not, let him go elsewhere.

Incidentally, any big time recruits at Tech we need to be looking at who might want to go elsewhere? Although I wonder about the mental aspect of any kid who'd want to pay for that nut Leach.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
