WOW! Listening to Collin Cowherd on ESPN Radio

Postby BRStang » Thu Jan 14, 2010 10:55 am

And he is actually going off on a rant about college athletics and how it is a joke for anyone to think that top players in FB and BB are not getting "a little something something." He says he is not a moralist about it, and says every big time coach knows how the game is played. It's about big money and winning for big time programs and its about getting out of poverty and "rural Georgia" or wherever for the athletes that go to these programs. He says it's just the way it is and no one should be pointing the finger about anyone else. It's just how the game is played. Anyone who thinks it is not about money and is about running a clean program is deluding himself...

WOW! I cannot believe what I was just hearing...I mean, we all suspect it, but for a guy like Cowherd to come out and say this is something else. I don't even think he realized what kind of bombshell his is dropping. I mean, it I know it is just radio, but Cowherd is a big ESPN radio guy...

I don't think obvious is the right word...unless, of course, you are on a first name basis with someone like Mack Brown. We may all suspect that payment of players is rampant, but for someone that close to the situation to go on a public rant like that, that's something different...at least it is to me. More than likely, his statements can and will be chalked up to "some sports talk radio guy" and get lost in the bandwidth, but I just haven't heard that kind of talk in a long while from such a big commentator.

BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Darn, now THAT is funny..where did you get that pic?
I hear you on the fact that a major commentator would come out and state the obvious and none really want to step on that land mine, now if the College Game Day guys were to say this type of stuff on their program, THEN we would see some scrambling....

You apparently don't understand the subject at hand. My point is not that cheating still exists and may be rampant, my point is that a top commentator close to the situation is saying that it IS rampant.

Perhaps you should take all your vast personal knowledge of "the subject at hand" to the NCAA compliance office. How are they existing without you?

The NCAA doesn't really want to know...unless it is being done by some small private school.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

He has one of the most grating radio voices out there. The only other one that is worse is Mark Levin.

Not a bad comparison, I guess, but as grating as Cowherd can be, he's infinitely more intelligent and well-informed — and enjoyable to listen to — than Little Skippy could ever hope to be. How he has a job anywhere is baffling.
