BTW.....this now means the ECU job is open.

East Carolina Pirates and Mike Leach could be a match made in heaven.

If the new coach has a somewhat different style it may take a year for the team to get accustom to the new schemes. This is good for SMU when we visit them next season.

2-year home and away cycles across divisions.

This means our 2 toughest road games next year will now both be under first year coaches!

Report: Skip Holtz gets USF jobComment Email Print Share ESPN.com news services

South Florida will announce later Thursday that it has hired East Carolina's Skip Holtz to replace the recently fired Jim Leavitt as football coach, AOL Fanhouse is reporting.

The 45-year-old Holtz led East Carolina to two consecutive Conference USA championships and 38 victories in four seasons. He also coached at Connecticut in the 1990s in the years before UConn became a Division I-A program.

Holtz is the son of former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, now a college football analyst at ESPN.

Leavitt was fired Jan. 8 for allegedly striking one of his players and then lying about the incident. He has hired an attorney, insisting his dismissal was unwarranted.

South Florida is standing by its findings.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

GREEENVILLE- Despite numerous media reports indicating otherwise, Skip Holtz has told his staff that it’s business as usual.

Fanhouse.com reported earlier today that Holtz had agreed to a deal with USF to take over as head football coach.

Several reports indicated that a staff meeting at East Carolina and a team meeting later in the day would confirm the deal.

Sources close to the Pirate football program say Holtz told the staff that no deal is in place and that it was business as usual.

Holtz will meet with his players at 3pm this afternoon and is expected to tell them the same thing, that there is no deal in place at this time.

We will have more information as it becomes available.

"I like pie", Holtz was also heard to say during the team meeting.
Sources said players looked bewildered more regarding that comment than the fact Holtz announced he was leaving for the Big East Conference school. But some were also miffed at how dismissive Holtz because he was using two lines of thought about a career change and also wanting to eat a bakery item.

That was part of the story smupony94 did not cut and paste.

I wonder how much more money they gave him. I don’t know why I'm so surprised.

But why would he say that? Really odd...Did he have a craving from all of the stress from this decision?
