To play a college football game in Texas on Friday night between late August and early November is a violation of the unwritten code as to how things are done in Texas. I just don't see how both SMU and TCU would agree to do this.

I would be really disappointed if that happens. High School football in Texas is just an island unto itself and should remain that way.

There's nothing for TCU to agree to. This is a unilateral SMU/CUSA decision to make if ESPN is offering a spot on ESPN on Friday night. Think about it Ponies. What other reasonable chance are you going to get to play on ESPN? Tues, Wed, and Sun night games are completely unreasonable.

This will be SMU's chance to knock of a top 10 rival on national TV just days after we play Oregon St on national TV. You can't pass up that kind of exposure just to please a handful of overly sensitive arrogant HS coaches. June Jones simply needs to go to the THSCA and tell them that ESPN has given them an offer that they can't refuse before signing the deal. Don't ask for THSCA permission, but just give them a courtesy note.

I'll give you another one, ESPN on National television. Not going to pass up a chance to showcase that beautiful SMU campus, great uniforms, The Boulevard, Ford Stadium, and a good crowd to the nation! SMU can never please everyone with anything it does, but, you can't pass this opportunity up.

I know ESPN contractually guranteed the ACC and other BCS conferences a big number of Thursday Nite games at least last year. Could be different in 2010 but look at the 2009 Thursday Nite schedule which is dominated by BCS schools-in fact each and every game except Boise St. v. Oregon involved a BCS conference home team. And the Boise home game was really a late nite second bill on a Thursday Nite doubleheader over Labor Day weekend

Who gives a [deleted]! Stop living out your glory days in high school. Unless you have a kid playing in a high school game that night, you should be at the SMU game.

You just don't want to irritate the High School coaching community by doing that. That could have huge ramifications.

I'm struggling to see how this situation can be negative at all? For those that suggest it is, I strongly encourage you to strive for more balance. We won one game in back to back seasons not very long ago and now we want to pick and choose what night ESPN features us?

Damn, high school kids and coaches cant watch it live. Guess they can go watch Baylor, North Texas, and Rice on the Saturday of that week and determine where they dont want to go. We have 11 other games, 5 at home, try to get to one of them. DISD is one of numerous school districts to play games on Thursdays and Saturdays. Hopefully as many of our prospects play on those nights as possible.

High school seniors worthy of Division 1 opportunities will have already been recruited a year by next September. If they possess a brain, they'll have gone to summer camps to market themselves a little more. It will mean more in their minds that a potential college is playing on ESPN (close enough to Saturday) than having to bypass a chance to eat a pre-game buffet, see the weight room and watch the teams warm up, which they'll have a chance to do five more times next fall.

High school coaches have nothing to gain or lose by endorsing or complaining about a college game featuring a top 10 program and one on the rise. They'll appreciate metroplex college football getting back to where it should. Those same high school coaches would think much less of SMU and TCU for not capitalizing on a chance to play in front of the whole country.

Last time I heard doom and gloom about irritating the "Texas High School coaching community" it was when Jones pulled the scholarship offer of that east Texas kid when he first got hired.

How'd that turn out for us?

I don't personally follow my high school, but I have to laugh at you differentiating so much between someone following their high school vs following their college. High school was only 4 years before college, so it is not like it is that much farther in the past. How is it living out his glory days for him to support his high school, but it is not glory days to support his college?
