Three choices:
(1) Change the athletic model and fire Dement now and start a new coaching search immediately; or
(2) Keep the current athletic model and give Dement a coaching extention and continue to get humiliated and be the laughing stock of Texas college basketball; or
(3) Keep the current athletic model and give Dement a coaching extention and drop dowayn to Division 2 or Division 1-AA.
Do you guys blame me for not attending a basketball game for over 2 years? Many of you have done the same. Maybe when only ten people show up to the game Copeland will realize that he made another mistake in a coaching hire. What has Copeland done for SMU anyways? His hiring record is amoung the worst in Division 1-A and he has made it almost impossible to have success in football with incredibly tough non-conference schedules. Along with Dement, he sucks also. My predicitions are coming true...SMU will be forced out of Division 1-A athletics soon unless SMU makes a commitement to compete. One more thing, screw you to Dement, Copeland, Turner, and the Board of Trustees for ruining SMU athletics. Sincerely and always yours, Johnny Rock.

Re: Johnny's solution...
is that a recommendation for a Committee to Fire Turner, the Board of Trustees or both?

Re: Johnny's solution...
Dement has lived up to what his record was when Copeland hired him. He's a good but not great coach, and helped lift the program to the good, but not great level in ncaa div 1a.
He's recruited some great players. It seems he can't recruit enough of them or can't motivate, and develop them into a team. Probably the latter.
From reading the DMN this morning about the Rice game, it looks like this team had a mutiny against the coach last night.

May the forth be with us.
Re: Johnny's solution...
It wasn't Turner or Copeland who "ruined SMU athletics." I was there from 91-98, and things weren't any worse when i left than when I got there.
Blame the restrictions on the previous president.
Blame the football woes on the 80s administrations.
Blame the basketball woes on John Shumate.
The worst you could say about the current crew is that they have made little improvement and haven't made the changes necessary to compete for championships.
