ECU coaching search

Postby smupony94 » Mon Jan 18, 2010 10:41 am

MURFREESBORO — Middle Tennessee State Coach Rick Stockstill interviewed for the East Carolina head coaching job Sunday, and WKRN-2 reported he was offered it.

Stockstill's last public appearance was MTSU's annual football banquet Saturday night, when he acknowledged to WKRN an initial contact with ECU and his interest in the job, which was left vacant when Skip Holtz was hired as South Florida's new coach last week.

MTSU players will gather at Stones River Mall today to celebrate their 2009 season and New Orleans Bowl win, but it is unclear whether Stockstill will be in attendance.

Early last week, Stockstill was scheduled to be at event, which is open to the public, but the official news release revealed that he will not be there.

The reasoning for Stockstill's absence is that he will be on a recruiting trip today.

Stockstill (27-23 and 20-9 in four seasons at MTSU) was East Carolina's offensive coordinator in 2003.

He has ties to the region after spending 14 years at Clemson and two years at South Carolina as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Stockstill has spent four seasons at MTSU, earning with the program's first FBS bowl appearance (2006 Motor City Bowl) and first FBS bowl victory (42-32 win over Southern Miss in the 2009 New Orleans Bowl). His Blue Raiders also became the first team in Sun Belt history to win 10 games this past season.

Every man has his preferences, but BBW is rarely the best option.
