Potential BIG EAST TRANSFER

Post by Blvd_Stang »

Randy Mckinnon of Syracuse...

Would this kid help that much?

He was class of 2007 so he's no youngin and he was never a consistant starter at Syracuse. Either way I've grown to trust June Jones and the staff's evaluation of talent.

Here's some links:

NOTE: I just noticed he was a second-team all-state RB in Florida during his high school days. I wonder if we'd use him as a RB?

Are you sure he's transferring?

Ponystampede did a nice job in breaking that story first (since that is where you got your info from anyway without giving credit) and Josh has a good article about him including an interview with him.

Sub needed.

Oops didn't mean to imply he was coming to the Hilltop...Just wanted to provide some basic info on him and see what people think his potential impact could be.

I don't think the coaches would give a scholarship to a transfer that had to sit one year and then have just one year left.

Particularly for a kid who has seen limited action at Syracuse.

if he's coming for graduate school, he doesn't "have" to sit out one year

I know that in the past few years some kids did this but I thought the NCAA reversed the rule allowing this due to too many instances occuring. Was that another dream? If so I need to satrt watching some pron before I go to bed.

I think that the NCAA is looking more closely at these situations to make sure the move is for academic reasons. If approved, he could play next fall. I believe he has played quite a bit and has started a number of games. He did not redshirt. If he comes to SMU, he would be on scholarship.

Yes in fact in 2007 one NCAA committe-I believe probably the AD committee tried to get rid of the Graduate Transfer Rule but I believe it was overruled by the Presidents and the rule is still in effect as long as the transferror school signs a waiver and the transfer is not athletically motivated

He has one year of eligibility left.

Why would we give him a scholarship? Part timer at Syracuse.

Plenty of high school kids in the area and ON the team now who can play.

I do not understand your logic. This is a kid who started some for Syracuse, did not reshirt, is a smart, mature player and is experienced in the college game at a high level. If JJ believes he can start next year and we have a need, why would you not take him. Getting an experienced, good senior player in a position where we have a need, would be a gift.

Totally right on...we get some help from a Big East experienced player who is an athlete we could use and let him play for a year and let some other guy redshirt and learn the defensive techiques and then they step in to play their redshirt year after his eligibilty expires. Its a total win/win.

Remember, Shawnbrey McNeal was a part timer at Miami. But look what he did here. Who knows, the same might be said about this young man.
