Re: LaTechhow about dement scheduling two a days.. 5 am and 4 pm today (thursday) and tomorrow.. i bet the players won't be tired.. considering they probably have to get up at 9 am for the 2pm game on saturday.. fatigue at it's finest.
Re: LaTechthe early season team would take the Dogs no problem. If they get tripped up in this one, we could be headed for a nose dive with Boise, UTEP, Fresno, and Nevada coming up. - ouch
Re: LaTechBball, are you serious? Two-a-days in mid-season? Is that really happening, or is that a guess/speculation? I'm no player, but I would think that's pretty rare, isn't it? It will be interesting to see what kind of legs the guys have Saturday.
Go Mustangs!
Re: LaTechIt is really happening. I know for a fact. And yes.. it is insane.
Re: LaTechLa Tech has an identical record to SMU. Ordinarily this should be a very even game for the ponies. Things are not ordinary at SMU right now. Down we go. Too much two-a-days.
Sam I Am
Re: LaTechBefore everyone freaks out about this two-a-day business, let's get our facts straight. Yes, they practiced at 5 a.m. the last two days. Yet another tactic to get their attention. Who knows if it will work. However, they did not actually practice in the afternoon with the exception of going over some in-bounds plays. They lifted and watched video the rest of the time.
This can't be used as an excuse if we don't win tomorrow. They got their normal practices in and nothing more. Dement isn't stupid enough to burn them out before a game they need to win.
Re: LaTechGood points, and that's a relief to learn that the second practice of the day was essentially a walk-through. That's the only way the guys will have any legs tomorrow.
With that out of the way, I'm kind of excited about tomorrow's game. LaTech must be coming in to Moody licking its collective chops after seeing the score from our debacle against Rice. They have to be thinking they're going to walk in and roll us. Of course, if we play the way we did against Rice, they will. But on the other hand, if we play like we did against Purdue and Texas Tech, we'll roll them. But I expect us to fall somewhere in between - where we fall in between will determine the outcome (prophetic, ain't I?) This game sets up as a great opportunity for the Ponies. For all the accolades he's had since he was a senior in high school, Hopkins can use Saturday's game as a game in which he can really establish himself as a leader. He has the ability to pull the team up on his back and take over .... but he doesn't need to dominate the scoresheet to lead the team. He needs to protect the ball and defend like a madman. Remember, he only had 4 (?) points against Purdue, but when the game was on the line, he hit the game winning shot. It's also a game in which Castro and Simpson can really assert themselves. If memory serves correctly, LaTech isn't the biggest team in the world. If Castro and Simpson can get some points in the low post (and hopefully draw a bunch of LaTech fouls), and rebound and block/alter a few shots, we'll have a terrific chance to win. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Re: LaTechSo...Dement is using a tactic that John Chaney has used for years at Temple. Should be interesting to see how the guys respond. You know Dement hopes they will find their desire to compete again...I'm sure he doesn't like getting up at 4:30 every morning any more than his players do.
This team needs a spark. I know it's a tired old rant from me, but if I was running the show, I think I'd consider having a "Moody Mania" day where we advertised the heck out of a near give-a-way bargain to try to pack the place...if only for one game. I've got to believe these guys would respond to a 7-8,000 crowd at Moody. This game with La Tech would have been a good one to experiment with. Let's just hope the students turn out in force today.
Re: LaTechAh yes, the Old Bear Bryant play book. You guys either play for sixty minutes or learn to get up early. Who wants to bet the first day of early workouts had lots of yo, yos? For the uninitiated, yo-yo's, are drills where you run up to the foul line and back, then to mid court and back, then to the next foul line and back, then to the other end line and back. Over, and Over, and Over. Usually 10-15 minutes of those, and guys are hurling.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: LaTechThey can be glad they are BB players. Fry has us do those, but it was on the football field and it was every 5 yards and back in full pads. Most did not make it to mid field. God I miss those days.
