Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?Given the number of commits we have currently, do you see the coaching staff saying "thanks, but no thanks" to any of the current commits to make room for some of the late recruiting additions? I know there's always a chance that a few don't qualify or agree to greyshirt, but I'm not familiar with June's history in this area.
I know this isn't the most pleasant scenario, but there's always the chance that some late sleepers come into the mix that have to be considered. Any thoughts? Derail the Frogs!
Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?I think maybe the coaches say thanks but no thanks to some of the current roster members

You might be right about that. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits? But arent' we limited to 25 new scholarships each year? And we're already sitting at 24.

We can and will greyshirt some. But we can sign as many as we want but we can only enroll 25. But RGV has a point. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?
I figured that. There's always some housecleaning that's done with the legacy roster. Isn't that why we saw so many players at Senior Day, given that some still had remaining eligibility? This is really only about the third year I've been following recruiting, so I'm still learning the process. Either way, it seems like this class is rounding out really well. Can't wait til Feb 3! Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?
i think you're right. probably some of the juniors i would imagine or sophs that were PB's guys that JJ inherited. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?
They have been doing that over the past month by just not keeping in contact with a few recruits from the past year and the recruits get the message and go elsewhere. The coaches are doing a masterful job IMO with the late juggling as you have to keep a lot of balls/athletes in the air. It looks there will be at least one commit that we won't be able to keep because of position desires by the athlete, hopefully no others will change their minds.
Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?we lost about 8* recruits in last years class to academic issues-I know of two guys that were in a little bit of academic jeopardy based on SAT/GPA scores I saw during points in the recruiting season-but unless you have their transcript its hard to know for sure. But we oversigned last year and while it appears they are shutting things down they said the same thing last year too. Wouldn't surprise me. There are some really perfect candidates for greyshirts in this class and June has always used that option at SMU and Hawaii

Most of those guys are the starting O line and a couple of the rotation lbs I do not believe he will get rid of them. Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?Unless someone misbehaves or has a poor attitude, I don't think we will see a group leave the program, unless it is their decission. One reason I beleive that this is true, is that several actually left during the year, very quietly as they were demoted to the practice squad and didn't travel. If you don't feel your going to play, and the new classes coming in are only going to put you further down the roster, the only reason to stay is to retain the scholarship. Some can afford the cost, others simply quit school or transfer. Playing college football is more than a full time job.
Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?dont' forget to add the 3 greyshirts from last year who just enrolled - they count on this year's committments
Re: Recruiting Question - Too Many Recruits?Great point.
So we're sitting at 26 in this class, with several offers still outstanding. Given that I'm hearing that 2 or 3 might not qualify, then we're looking at one, maybe 2, open spots. I'd love to see one of those OL or DL offers come through, and maybe another true DB. Sounds like there's some magic that needs to be worked by JJ and the staff, as well as some other things to happen, but I guess it's all still possible. Derail the Frogs!

Not sure but I believe greyshirts can count in last years class or this years class. Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
