Can I tell you, as a lifelong Saints fan, I never thought this day would come. Last night's game was not just a game to "watch and enjoy." It was painful and gut-wrenching. The entire state of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast was willing this win for the Saints.

For me, personally, it was about as emotional as SMU making it to the bowl game. And, I never would have expected that, but it was.

Awesome feeling for Saints fans! And I'm so glad Morestead is playing the role he is playing, and doing it so well!

Go Saints! Go Mustangs!
Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!

If he does indeed retire, and I suspect he will not, then he will have something else in common with the great Roger Staubach.

Their last pass.

I love that Morstead is going to the Super Bowl. I knew he had what it takes to make it in the NFL. I wish the TV guys would mention SMU when Morstead goes to work! :)

I suspect that Farve didn't run, because his ankle was messed up and he probably didn't think he would run fast enough to get much downfield. He should never have thrown across the field though. That is something they teach from pee wee forward. Great win for the Saints and the Big Easy. Who Dat!
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Raymond Berry coached New England against Chicago in the 1986 Super Bowl. Was Wes Hopkins with Philadelphia in Super Bowl 15 against Oakland or was that before him?

Michael Carter had to be with those great 1980s 49er teams.

Unrelated, Doak Walker won a couple of NFL championships with Detroit in the 1950s.

I long for the day when SMU fans aren't really excited about a former kicker winning an NFL playoff game.

???? Cause it'll be our quarterback or something? Why can't we be happy for our kicker in the future? Only a handful of kickers/punters win playoff games each year, and only two go to the Super Bowl. I think it's big news that a rookie who I watched play well for my alma mater had such a positive impact on a Super Bowl team. I can't envision the day when I wouldn't be excited for a guy like that.

have you guys heard any stories about the saints being important during katrina? I really hope there is at least 1 feature on this story sometime in the next 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, I keep waiting for Favre to throw that clutch INT his career has been marked by, but so far the defenders are managing to drop balls that hit them in the gut or his WRs are making great plays on balls thrown into coverage. good game that looks like it will go down to the wire.

prophetic

anyone who has watched this guy through the years knows this will be his legacy...he's ALWAYS made careless throws but this year I think he played on a really good team and his WRs really surprised me with some of the plays they made to bail him out. I think this may have been the best year he's ever had (in terms of his TD : INT ratio which I think is as important a stat for QBs as the assist : turnover ratio is for a bball PG). Morestead was awesome!
