Problems for Torlan Pittman

i am not big on conspiracy theory....but is it a "TOTAL COINCIDENCE" that now two
years in a row a week or two before signing day some controversy hits the newspapers
about SMU?....wasn't it last year right before signing day that the papers were full of stories
about the East Texas kid that June told "no thanks" and the doom and gloomers all predicted
it would really hurt our future recruiting....now this Torlan Pittman story that actually happened
months ago just "happens" to surface about a week away from signing day? i guess it is just
a coincidence but good gosh the timing seems funny.

I think that was JJ's first year here. But I do remember the sky is always falling crowd crying, "that we're doomed to NEVER get another kid out of east Texas again!" I guess they moved Tyler in the middle of the night

Let me repeat this one more time for Insane, this happens everywhere. Tennessee basketball suspended 4 for robbery. Minnesota basketball has a problem with two players right now. Arizona's Dan Buckner got busted while he was at Texas, Arkansas basketball suspended 6 or 7 before the season started because of a sexual assault issue I believe.

Do I need to go on? I shouldn't have had to repeat this. Think you got just a wee bit defensive.

This also happens at the SAE house, the ATO house, the KEG house, . . . you just don't always hear about it. I am willing to bet that the general student population at SMU has had more infractions with the law than the Football team in the last 5 years . . .

Had a similar problem happen at a party I hosted. Girl claimed she was drugged and raped, got the cops involved, etc despite witnesses saying it was impossible. Cost my friend, who was at SMU on scholarship and not from a wealthy family, several grand and that's without it even making it to trial. She lied to save her skin when SMU PD picked her up drunk/underage to try to avoid a ticket. Nobody had even had sex with her.

I find the best bet in these situations is to assume the woman is lying for her own benefit until proven otherwise.

According to reports, the lab results back up her "drugged" story. Given that they have contemporary lab results, she must have been to the hospital/police back in September, and the Police have taken their time to investigate this. From reports, Torlan admitted to having sex with her, but maintains that it was consensual. These are all things that make the situation look pretty bleak for everyone involved. Obviously we don't know what happened that night, and to be honest, the Jury in a trial won't know either. But they will deliberate on the evidence that they have, and in my limited experience with Juries, Pittman is going down whether he did anything or not. I'm not condoning the system here, but simply predicting the outcome if this thing goes to trial, based on the information that we have on hand.

Of course, it just takes one good* Jury member to unhing the prosecution, and that'll be up to the Attorneys in voir dire.

I'm kinda of the thinking that we will no longer see Pittman play for SMU regardless of the outcome of this.

At the very least, the coaching staff has to work off the premise that the suspension will be forever and it will be a benefit should he ever return.

Actually I seem to remember almost all of us saying screw him, we're going to get whoever we want because June Jones will build a winning program here. Nothing like revisionist history.

Wasn't Pittman playing DE — at least part time, if not full-time — last season? This might not change the landscape at Nose as much as some say.

Either way, I still think Frazier slides inside, Thompson and Hunt start at DE, and Frazier is joined inside by O'Guin (thank god he enrolled early and can get a spring under his belt) and Jimmy Chase.

Marquis Frazier is NOT 3-4 NG. He is a 3-4 DE. I really hope they get another NG. If they did this Frazier would not be as effective. If they did this If I were Frazier I'd be hacked about it.

No daughter, but sisters and mother and so on. If I do have a daughter, I will tell her to be aware of her surroundings and never put herself in situations like this. period. As with anything in life, make good choices.

I've just seen this situation play out too many times. It is truly a shame.

I'm an attorney and I understand that analyzing a sensitive issue like this can make you look like a total [deleted]. So don't read any of my comments as condoning bad behavior or giving any more or less weight to any of the information we've been given... however, with that said:

If that's the case, and she's a teacher, that's something for the defense to work with. If she has a morality clause in her contract, he may have had a very good reason to make the allegation. It would help her explain drunkenness and the associated sex (and even prescription drug abuse), without exposing her to sanctions from her employer. It may be a reach, but it's more than I had this morning.
