I swear I can't stand some of you "glory day"-ers that rip on the younger alumni or current students as being apathetic. It was your generation that got us the death penalty and subsequently hired Pye to drop the second bomb and you have the audacity to throw the students/young alumni under the bus for having to watch us get beat by freaking UTEP and Sam Houston State. If we were still in the SWC and playing major programs you'd see the support. Thanks to a bunch of greedy idiots we will never see that again.

sorry, youngster...but "my generation" came out and filled the entire lower level of Moody (and often overflowed into the upper end zone seats) to support teams that played .500 bball. The death penalty guys came later. It's great that there are some of you who support the programs and have done so through some really horrible years. My comments are directed to those who will go thru their 4 years at SMU and never even consider attending a game. There have been a high percentage of those types in the general student body for many, many years now and they don't "grow up" to become fans...even when we win. Just a fact. Sorry you are offended by that.

I don't know why you take it so personal. I am a young alum myself, but there is no denying the general apathy. Trust me, even next year, we will struggle to attract a ton of fans to football games. It is what it is. but don't deny the truth.

I wholeheartedly agree, it's pathetic. It just frustrates me because I am such a small sliver of the SMU sutdent body who actually gives a damn and makes it to all the games.

Any 80s UTEP basketball team would have beaten any pre death penalty team; UTEP has always had a better bball program

Part of it has to do with the fact that the current students didn't come to SMU to watch SMU sports as we didn't have that winning rep and it will take time, but I was a little PO'd last night as more students need to come to the game as part of their college experience, win or lose.

The current product is competitive and the games are close. With a strong home crowd it can turn the tide on the court. The UNLV team was good, deep and talented, and we can write that one off as the rest of the games have been close.

I hope the Memphis game has a good turnout and Moody is rocking like the WAC days when we played Tarks Fresno State teams with a good loud student turn out.

This is the first time in awhile, but I must whole heartedly agree with the general. A three game winning streak does not erase the shoddy basketball SMU has played from many years. Charleston, Pye 's legacy lives on. We have reaped what he sowed 25 years ago.

So many people insist that winning will fill Moody, but I just don't see it. A more likely scenario is that a sold out stadium will attract Dallas' best players. Hopefully we start winning and see an attendance boost, but to be big-time we need to fill the stadium win or lose. All the best players want to play in front of a full house unless they have a very compelling reason for coming to SMU such as Shawnbrey McNeal.

Let's start winning and make a few NCAA's then let's see what happens. Sustained success can only help. How long has it been since we have had multiple winning seasons much less post season play?

I'm post Death Penalty by a year or two, so don't blame me. I know what I saw during the '93 SWC run and the attendance was weak short of Arkansas and UT. Those games were close to full b/c those schools travel well, not b/c we packed the joint on our own. If you think a 'winner' solves SMUs problems when it comes to attendance, you're sadly mistaken. I've never ever seen a school that's student body is as apathetic as ours. They simply don't care, and even when they show, they wear frat gear. They can't come to Monday games b/c of chapter or whatever. Everyone wants a winner, but not supporting when we lose is the definition of frontrunner.

Not that I am a huge frat guy, but did you get black-balled?

The greeksystem is the backbone of SMU, so of course most of the campus is frat-tastic, and even though the support for teams isn't there yet, it makes for some of the best Thurs/Fri/Sat nights anywhere in the country...Laying into the greek system at SMU will make you no friends.

Start winning and attendance will go up....

Football attendance will be up this year by 15% maybe more...

LOL, you must be kidding about the backbone of SMU. I may make that my signature, or at least forward it to my buddies for a good chuckle. FWIW, I got into the frat of my choice, which was one of the two 'best', whatever that means, on campus at the time. After realizing it was douchetastic, I deactivated on my own terms. Saying the greek system provides some of the best Thurs/Fri/Sat nights anywhere in the country is w/o a frame of reference for an actual good time.

The greek system at SMU doesn't build character, it divides the student body into a multitude of too cool for school wannabes, that don't embrace what college is really about. If laying into the greek system doesn't win me those type of friends, consider me lucky.

Football attendance will be up slightly, but all bets are off if we lose to Tech.
