Goal line offense

Postby Corso » Mon Oct 08, 2001 8:11 pm

We have to throw four consecutive times when we have first down at the 5? Not so fast my friends!

Here's what you do. Take Sterling Harris (who may or may not be able to pass block -- hard to tell when he never plays -- but reportedly can be a dominant run blocker) and line him up as a tight end outside Joey Slaten on the left. (Note: make sure he tells the referee so he's eligible. Line two receivers (including Billy Ford - he can block) on the opposite (right) side, along with another tight end. Bring the other tight end in motion behind Page to the left (Slaten/Harris) side, then have him go back to the other side. The defense will read that as SMU overloading that side and begin to shift over. Have Page pitch the ball to Keylon Kincade running right, with Page bailing out to the left. Kincade heads toward the right side of the line, then cuts back toward the left. As the defense tries to reverse fields, there's Slaten and Harris -- a combined 650 pounds of blocker -- turning them back inside. If for some reason someone DOES get through, Kincade flips the ball over the line to Page, who's walking into the end zone. Would work 90 percent of the time.

Evidently the coach must have been afraid we might fumble....not like we ever throw an interception. The coach really knows how to build up the team's confidence.

THIS GAME SHOULD NEVER HAVE COME DOWN TO AN OVERTIME SITUATION!!!!!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Briggs may have fumbled a couple of times this year, but I find it hard to believe that he couldn't have ground out a measley 5 yards on 4 carries.

Good grief!
