One more year

Alright, I've been leading the Fire Doherty charge for awhile now...but let's give him another year. This ship may have been righted...maybe.

Uhhh, wait a few more games... remember that UAB game? The season could resemble that with Memphis being the end of the first half.

Obviously, the team needs to finish strong, but this isn't just about wins & losses at this point, it's about program direction, system, and identity. Right now, this is a tough match-up zone squad, that plays grind it out O and controls tempo. Believe me when I say, that's a frustrating model for the undisciplined squads in CUSA. When they get a couple more shooters and passers, they will start to look more like a Butler style squad, which is the last thing UTEP, Memphis, UAB & Tulsa want to see w/consistency.

We'll win some more this year, and lose some more, but the right path is being forged. Baring a complete and total meltdown, this staff needs to come back. They have solid recruiters on the bench now to help the one man show, Lutz, and stability. Beyond that, the '10 class is perfect for this new style, just perfect. Oh yeah, we're close anbd lead on on a few profile Texas '11s as well
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

One more year for sure. I'll take DOH over a Billy G anyday. I'd rather have a coach yelling at his players every game than a coach blowing into a breath-a-lizer every time he wants to start his car.

Great crowd against Memphis. The joint rocks at 4,500 people. If we put 4,000 to 5,000 fans with good student attendance at each remaining game this year, our new recruiters would get into a lot of local doors. It's up to SMU fans to get our attendance up to this critical level. The casual Dallas fan can sit up top in Moody after we have our program back up and running.

By the way, I like our style of basketball. Tough and in-your-face. Our guys hit the floor for loose balls and don't cry when elbowed. We don't have to apologize for that.

Looking forward to Tuesday night in Hattiesburg? Never thought I would be saying that this year but glad I am.

this week is big...if they are going to finish strong and actually go into CUSA play with a decent seed and some confidence, we have to win BOTH these games. Anything shy of a split could start another backslide.
