I felt as if I was at a college event this evening . Excellent student representation, good crowd, and a great victory for SMU.

I loved what coach D said to the 700 broadcaster in regards to the San Marcus loss.

Anyone else find this quote interesting?

"... He is in the fourth year of a seven-year contract, a length of time he insisted upon, having told athletic director Steve Orsini that turning SMU around is a five-year project, at least... "

A SEVEN-year deal? I thought he signed for five years. If there's anyone who harbored illusions of Coach D leaving after this year, forget it. I didn't think one year would get bought out — no way three more years would get bought out. He'll be back next year.

If he in fact believes he has finally settled on a offensive set, then let's get out there and recruit the hell out of DFW 2011's class. There's got to be plenty of talent, who would come play here.

It was a great game experience. Particularly enjoyed not seeing Memphis up the tempo and pull away as usual. That SMU did not pack it up and fade away after the UAB game is also part of what makes this a signature win. With the recruits coming in and the ones we are in the hunt for in the 11 class, is cause for optimism.

it's a sign of how far the program has fallen when we are all excited about a "crowd" of 4,000 in Moody. Let's get this program back to winning consistently enough to get the students more interested and let's see how tough a place Moody can be when we put between 5-7,000 in the place for every conference home game. I hope we can soon get to the point where we will be disappointed that only 4,000 showed up. We need to get back to the point where only a top 25 team will come into Moody and have any hope of winning. College bball, more than any other sport, is all about home court advantage and yesterday we got a taste of that.

..Now CPony no disrespect, but cmon you dreamin? We will never have that many for conference home games.....4,000 was good for us and it was loud and appeared to be a good crowd. I was very happy to see this crowd and if we can get in the 5-6,000 range, we will be rocking. We aren't going to get full houses for Marshall, East Carolina, Southern Mississippi, etc.ever. And how many will travel from our 'rivals' Tulsa, Rice, Houston, UTEP etc to see these games?
We will get a few games that are of national caliper, and will see 7-9,000 fans that will be curious and we will get those size crowds when we play A&M or Texas etc. but CUSA can't be expected to draw big crowds here at SMU. I wish.

Can anyone verify that his contract is for five years or seven years. And with no buyout?? That is unbelievable. I am happy that we have a slight winning streak started but we need to evaluate the entire season not just the last few games.

It's 5 years and the buyout includes assistants and other payoffs, so it's steep.

That would be no....but he may have a 2 year Option in the Contract, enacted only by the AD.

I thought the assistants were basically y-t-y. What other payoffs would there be? I agree his base salary is not small but it is also not that great for a bball or fball coach.
I am just curious. Like most of us I hope he gets this turned around but if we don't go .500 or better this year I'm not sure he should be retained. JMO.

Assistants may be year to year, but provisions for them, whoever they may be, are reportedly built in. From what I've been told, it would take a mil plus to buy-out the staff. Considering it would take at least that to hire another reputable staff, why do that now, en lieu of waiting a year and just spending 1.5 or whatever? It's like tossing booster money away, cause the AD isn't picking it up. Doh has some political capital amongst a few heavy boosters as well. We'll see, but this should be about program direction, system, and recruiting right now. Being .500 would be great, but if we're a game or two off, the season was still close to the expectations of most. I expect to be better next year from Day 1, though.

ponydoh- Thanks for the info. If I understand your comments correctly we have committed to over 500k beyond Doh's salary. That hardly seems like a prudent business decision. I am not a Doh fan as I feel we have waisted at least 3 years 'lost in the desert'. That being said I am further concerned that entering the last year of a contract with no extension (and at this point I do not feel that he needs one) will be very bad for recruiting. I have no problem with him finishing next year providing he is at least .500 this year. My greatest fear is that SO will make a unilateral decision to keep him beyond his 5 yr. contract without a performance record that justifys it.
