Has Dement left yet?

Postby Sam I Am » Sat Jan 31, 2004 9:28 am

I keep checking our rumor boad here to see if the patient has died already. Bugler, get ready to play taps. It can't be much longer now. Another blow out defeat and the services will commence. :pinch:

Call it a hunch, a guess, a gut feeling, but I bet Coach Dement wins a few down the stretch and is here next year. Personally, I'm pulling for him, and as long as he's our coach, we all should.

No offense Fresh, but I am guessing that you have not been witnessing this same cr*p for the last nine years.

Actually, I've missed exactly two home games in his career at SMU. I do know how much we've struggled, to say the least. I'm not sitting here telling you we're going to run the table or anything, but I just get the feeling for some reason that we'll win a few down the stretch. And that, coupled with the fact that we have some very promising recruits (Roberts, etc.) coming in next year and the fact that the school likely won't want to pay two coaches at once, just gives me the sense that he'll be back. Either way, I'm pulling for the Ponies at every game.

If you've truly only missed 2 games since his arrival, you are quite a fan but I like DH am sick and tired of watching these offenses struggle and collapse - even with these same players we are capable to be a lot more competitive.

Who is going to put up the $400M+ to buy out Dement's contract?

No One? I thought so! The economics of the department probably won't allow for a buyout. The ONLY way that will happen is if a booster does it and we banned many of those guys when we received the death penalty in the 80's.

Expect Dement back for the final year on his contract and lets let this thread die!

There are still plenty of big $ supporters of SMU. How do you think Ford Stadium was built? It was on donations from six individuals. If we can come up with $65 million, we can come up with $400k.

I will believe it when I see it. Those boosters that you are refering to are partial to football. This is evidenced by the fact that Moody hasn't been upgraded in years! Moody is supposed to be upgraded in the near future when, in fact, it should be replaced. The funds don't seem to be flowing to the basketball team, and its needs, as fast as the football team.

Fresh, I guess this was the 3rd game you’ve missed in Dement’s tenure, eh.

Clearly they are partial to football, but I see Gerald Ford and Lamar Hunt at virtually every home basketball game, including the most recent one.

I've seen Bunker there also, but he is only a paltry millionaire after his silver debacle. He sold his house on Lakeside Drive for a few million so I know that he still has assets in the 7 figures. (I wonder if they were ever able to trace all the money that disappeared from his estate during the bankruptcy process?)
