So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...and this board is dead because you're whining about the Men's team.
GO TO A WOMEN'S GAME! Sheesh! Oh you gotta love it. The horns, the drums, the noise! It's all for the love of music, for the love of the game.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...Been to three this year, and more are in my future.
You make a great point - we should be jamming Moody for the ladies, too.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...Barbara Ann,
I truly wish I could relieve some of my pain and frustration by embracing a win by the women's basketball team. But the vast majority of college sports fans, including myself, don't care anything about any sports outside of football and men's basketball. Don't mean to be negative in this regard, just stating the truth in case you have wondered about why people rarely respond to your posts re enjoying the triumphs of women's BB. [ 01-31-2004, 02:15 PM: Message edited by: Diehard Pony ]
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...I'm a big fan of both, and I certainly understand that football and men's bball rule college athletics, but the women have just completed a great weekend in which they dominated two games and got their conference record above .500. Again, I'm a huge fan of both, but lets give the women a little more love, they havent called it a year yet, the men have.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...Don't fret. You're not being negative, only truthful. I just find it annoying when people are screaming out "Fire Copeland" and whatnot, whenever SMU Sports is actually doing really, really well this year. Being in band and going to all football and basketball games, I DO have a strong sense of pride and I like to hope that our teams will get better, but just because they're sucking does not mean that I will sit on my butt and let people completely ignore a WINNING ladies team. If it doesn't do any good, oh well, at least I tried. But it's good to hear that some people DO go to the games and DO care about the ladies. It's just the way to go this season. People can sit on here and rant about Men's basketball all day long, every day of the week, or you can go out and support our ladies, who not only deserve it, but need it. I've always wondered how many of those who complain about attendance go to women's games? Try a women's basketball game, heck try a women's VOLLEYBALL GAME! Up until 5 minutes before the game, there is a capacity crowd of about 50 people. I didn't mean to sound harsh earlier, but it just frustrates me when people call themselves SMU MUSTANG fans, and only support one team. Don't give up guys! We're not out of it all yet! Oh you gotta love it. The horns, the drums, the noise! It's all for the love of music, for the love of the game.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...Look at places like La Tech and Tennessee. They support their women's teams better than they do their men. It's got something to do with winning consistently. Would be interesting to see whether SMU/Dallas would support a top women's program. Both our teams still have a long ways to go.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...No doubt, but I think it'd be rather interesting as well. Maybe in a few years...

Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...I wish all our other sports well, and I am proud of their accomplishments, but until football and men's basketball are success stories I am going to continue to be extremely displeased with SMU sports.
In order to constructively deal with my displeasure, I am trying to do something about it. I am close enough to the campus and know some of the key people, and I am trying use both to be a catalyst for change. I am joined in this effort by a very close friend. We have come to find out that there are a fair number of splintered groups and / or individuals out there doing the same thing. Let's hope one or all of us is successful in some way. Not much luck thus far. [ 01-31-2004, 05:32 PM: Message edited by: Diehard Pony ]
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...BA,
Haven't missed a game this year! It's good to see Cossey back in shooting form - this team really depends on her to put the ball in the basket. We appreciate the band being at the games. It really is great to watch y'all play. DP - I understand how you feel, but instead of waiting around for football and the men's team to get their acts together, I'm going to enjoy one of our most successful programs in recent years. When Rhonda gets the girls to the NCAAs, I'll be there to support them and I'll be just as happy about it as if it were the men's team. And if they happen to both make it, I'll still be with the women.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...I also have seen a few games. Glad to see Cossey back in form. She has struggled mightily with her shot. Have a nice team. Have some tough home games ahead. Would like to see a decent crowd at the remaining home games. Have UTEP, Tulsa, Rice, and La Tech left. Those are the top half of the WAC. :showoff:
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...Actually they beat UTEP this past weekend at home. I think the remaining home games are Tulsa/Rice, San Jose/Hawaii, and Tech.
Cossey has struggled partly because she's hurt. She's put off having the surgery until after her senior year, but she has a serious ankle problem.
Re: So the ladies just SLAUGHTERED the Broncos...Not sure what you are talking about with Cossey and having to have surgery after season. She has not been playing because she has not been producing and Rhonda found a young freshman who could play defense as well as score, Katie Gross. But Katie unfortunately is having injury problems now. But Cossey is not having surgery of any sort after season. She seemed to have tweaked her ankle a couple of weeks ago and that is all. Sarah Davis, Shonte Roberts, and Kaira White, however, will be expecting surgery after season. Although Davis' surgery might wait until her career is finished.
