Roberts updateSome positive news amid all the gloom and doom. Roberts numbers in his last three games.
31 pts in a 57-64 loss to Aldine 22 pts in a 72-74 loss to Eisenhower 29 pts in a 72-68 win over Spring Woods Nimitz is now 4-5 in district and 17-11 overall. They probably wont make the playoffs but Roberts continues to have one of the best seasons of any senior in Texas. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Roberts updateI can't wait for that guy to get to the Hilltop.
Re: Roberts updateHopefully he will live up to all of the hype that he is creating with his current play. We really haven't had anybody be 1/2 the player that they were when SMU recruited them.

Re: Roberts updateReally, Snob?
Sasser: WAC freshman of the year (1998) WAC player of the year (1999) 2 Time WAC first team selection (1999 and 2000) WAC second team selection (2001) Hancock: WAC first team selection (2002) WAC second team selection (2001) Q: WAC player of the year (2003) Honorable mention all-american by AP (2003) WAC all-defensive team (2002 and 2003) WAC first team selection (2003) WAC second team selection (2002) Bryan Hopkins: WAC freshman of the year (2003) For not being 1/2 the player they were expected to be, these guys sure accomplished quite a bit at SMU. Why don’t you get a f***ing clue you a-hole. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Roberts updateIt is great that Sasser, Hancock, Q, and Hopkins won all of those individual honors, but unfortunately it is a team game that they play and not one of them was able to lead the Ponies to a trip to the NCAA's. That trip to the NIT really did not do much for the perception of the SMU program.

Re: Roberts updateSnob actually makes a point here... I seriously don't get you Dement apologists... his system doesn't work...not with our athletes. Plus, it encourages reckless and selfish shots... he tries to make a star out of one player and hope that he carries the team.. but he never builds leaders... just All-WAC players with gaudy #'s... that soon realize all those #'s we're just a facade once they crash and burn in the NBA... if they even get there.
Dement can develop individual talent well... but the team chemistry is ****. This group of players could be a scrappy bunch, with out without the depth we really need. They've each shown us a spark at one time or another... but consistency is learned... to have heart, you have to have motivation. Right now we have selfish PG play... its not B-Hop's fault.. its what Dement tells him. Brian is NOT a pure shooter, but Dement gives him the green light to shoot all too often. He could be a dynamic PG. Unfortunately, in Dement's system, he can't even teach a talent such as B-Hop to generate more assists. [ 02-01-2004, 10:58 PM: Message edited by: FloridaMustang ]
Re: Roberts updateI'll even disagree with this. Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't Dement's fault, but Sasser plateaued midway through his junior season and never got any better. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Re: Roberts updateThe part about the lack of team success is true but you (Snob) said, and I'll quote "We really haven't had anybody be 1/2 the player that they were when SMU recruited them." Nothing could be further from the truth. Individually, they were all as advertisied or better (with the exception of Hop, thus far). I dont believe any of these guys were the head coach. Sas, Hancock, and now Hop have been put in positions that make them appear as selfish, me first players. It is a coaches job to deal with that. If you knew any of these guys they did their best to help SMU win. Andre Emmitt, a young man with the same back ground as Hop, Sas, Davis, and Hancock, was considered a selfish player before Knight got to Tech. Now with a little structure, he is probably the best all-around player in the country....and his team wins. Funny how that works.

Re: Roberts update2/3 - 16 pts in a 77-66 win over Northbrook
2/6 - 17 pts in a 76-56 win over Stratford Nimitz has won 3 in a row and now 7-5 in 21-5A. Although DR's scoring is down in these two games the Houston Chronicle has him averaging 30 pts a game and leading the Houston area in scoring by 7 pts per game over #2 Jawann McClellan (22.6 per), a top 25 player in the country. http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/sports/hs/bk/boys/boys_bk_class_leaders.hts?class=5A&month=01&date=6&year=2004&newmonth=Feb SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Roberts updateI've actually heard that Roberts' teammates have freezed him out at some points during this season so he wouldn't score more. Don't know if that's completely true or if it's the reason why his points have been down lately.
BTW, McClellan is going to Arizona next year.
Re: Roberts updatePG, I hope that is not true. If so, that is very troubling.
Nimitz won their 4th and 5th games in a row this week. Here are Roberts numbers. 23 pts in a 73-59 win over MacArthur 27 pts in a 72-58 win over Memorial They are now 8-5 in district but it looks like they will wont make the playoffs. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four

Re: Roberts updatethe scoring average certainly suggests Roberts is a big time scorer, but has anyone seen him play? What are his shooting precentages? How is his shot selection? Does he play "D"?
Re: Roberts updateI saw him play once his junior year. As a team, Nimitz was much better because they had two other high D1 players on their team, Blake Adams (TCU) and Cartier Martin (K-State). Roberts played more PG than shooting guard. He distributed the ball very well and rarely forced his shot. He could jump out of the gym and was very quick off the dribble. Defensively, he used his quickness to his advantage and played very sound D.
Obviously, he is the scorer this year for Nimitz and everything I’ve read says he’s improved his outside shot tremendously. A good indication on how much he has improved is at the begging of the year he was ranked as the 12-15th best player in Texas by the recruiting gurus and now he is considered a top 8 player in the state. If he had committed to a school in the Big XII, ACC, or SEC, he would probably be ranked as a top 5 player. He is the best prospect we have had next to Hop in sometime.
