Their last 3 games....finally starting to gel..I think they are the best team.

101-76 (blew out Rice who blew us out by 40pts)
84-65 (blew out Fresno State)
Just beat Tulsa @ Tulsa 89-67 (worst loss ever at Reynolds)

Snyder is going to manhandle us. Stats tonight - 28pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assists....Another big L coming our way unless some serious magic comes along...thank goodness San Jose (8 Juco's) sucks worse or SMU would be in last place. 2-7 is ridiculous.

The 1st half Mustangs would beat Fresno at Moody but who knows...

STALLION'S ACADEMIC RISK PREVIEW: Nevada is lead by perhaps the best player in the WAC Kirk Snyder(who had to sit out the first semester of his freshman year because he hadn't passed the NCAA Clearinghouse due to a poor SAT score) and G Todd Okeson a Junior College Transfer. Snyder is averaging 18.5 ppg and 5.6 rebounds while Okeson is averaging 10.2 ppg and 2.0 rebounds pergame. In all Nevada has at least 4 academic risks who collectively account for 36.5 ppg and 15.2 rebounds pergame.

The problem with admitting non-qualifiers is that they have to pay their own tuition, room and board. This is mandatory (ask Dave Bliss). No hinky booster loans, no ethnic scholarships, they gotta pay. My question which Stallion has yet to answer is how do the St. Joe's of the world get non-qualifiers to cough up $25,000 to go to their school when they could go to a school like the University of Maryland for $3,000 (except the ACC unlike the Atlantic-10 has a rule against non-qualifiers). So will CUSA. The answer admit JUCO's. So, how do we go about getting JUCO's to transfer here, when their hours can't transfer here? That's the question that really needs to be answered.

I don't see the reasoning in continuing to post something that will never happen at SMU.

The Juco's transfer hours may get easier but academic risks is a moot point. We get the message loud and clear though.

I have never advocated the admission of a SINGLE partial or non-qualifier at SMU. However, the academic risks taken by our competitors is relevant to whether we should take low qualifiers, wait on late qualifiers and take JUCOs.

Ok, it just seems like the posts make it clear you would advocate taking academic risks.

I'd also like to know the status of the CUSA folks in comparison. I like the regional aligment but we don't have better competition and I will miss the WAC in basketball. I am sure there are plenty on non-qualifiers at So Miss, Birgm, etc.

....Alright Cinderella the dream's over-taking a chance on academic risks is just a part of competing at the Division 1A level-I could write similar posts about almost every school in every other Division 1A conference.

CUSA has always allowed partial and non-qualifiers. Can you say Cincinnatti? UAB? Any of the state supported schools we will be competing against, for that matter! It will be no different than the WAC in terms of the challenges ahead to be competitive.

yes, no doubt Memphis and Cinnci are big risk takers but all the good bball schools will be gone anyway.

CP, the crowd will be slight tomorrow night I guarantee. Snyder is going to eat our lunch.

I'm not usually into bold predictions, but SMU is gonna beat Nevada at Moody. I think our guys will show some pride and defend the homecourt better than we have.

That is very bold considering the current state of team and Nevada starting to gel.

Ok Hoop Fan, you obviously have "the gift", so please help me with my stock portfolio. I need some winners really bad.

That was one wild and crazy finish. I can't remember ever witnessing a game with someone shooting freethrows with 0 on the clock and the game in the balance. Much needed win.

It was a guess, but an informed guess from watching this team closely for years and college hoops. The homecourt is just huge, SMU was due for a good effort, and I thought playing against Kirk Snyder in front of pro scouts would get the guys 'up' for sure. The refs were pretty close to a joke, giving Snyder too many calls, but Nevada did kill us on the boards, they were the aggressor physically.

HF, I was really suprised how poorly Nevada played. - we should have had that one in the bag. The refs did suck completely on both sides.

Yea, I thought Snyder played about as poorly as he could. The guy is a man among boys. I still say the refs bailed him out way too much though. And Nevada relied on him too much at times, kind of the Jeryl Sasser syndrome. I'll say this, if you put a guy like that with Bhop and our lineup, everything and everyone improves immensely. We just arent strong enough overall, and especially on the boards.
