Doh's comments:

No toughness, lack of leadership from Derek Williams and Dia, who were "no-shows"

When you've got Caracter, Culpeper, and Moultrie, that's a good core right there. USM and Tulane don't have anyone like that

Um, read it again.

harsh but true
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

In truth, I don't see UTEP beating USF or A&M

In El Paso, they'd beat them. In Collie Station or Tampa, no way. Neutral court, they'd probably lose each game 70% of the time.

I don't buy it. I saw them get run by BYU at home w/o Jimmer Fredette. Talented team, no coaching.[/quote]

Barbee has never been a great coach, but did UTEP have Caracter vs. BYU (wondering since Caracter has only played since mid December)

And can you really tell anything by a 3 inch screen? I saw them play against Tulsa on ESPN HD and I disagree with the terms "tubby" and "lethargic"

Sorry to hear that about McCoy. :( Hopefully he comes back with a vengeance next year.

Hope so. Hurt his knee very badly (tore a few ligaments) so he'll have to be tough and get through rehab well and hopefully he will take out his frustrations against our opposition next year.

When I heard the interview Iit seemed like he ripped into the players but took no responsibility for possible poor coaching.

i actually think that is sort of harsh on Williams and Dia. Dia in particular had to spend alot of energy bodying with Caracter with basically no relief from Luttman or anybody until 5 mins left in the game. Caracter was just too much to handle and he stayed more fresh cuz he had a backup. Utep had an inside game, outside game and a mid range game. i thought they were pretty good offensively, vulnerable defensively but they were still athletic enough to handle us. Thought Clinkscales showed well tonight. I'm a little worried that Haynes is becoming the new Harp, we were playing 4 on 5 at times on offense. He is now afraid to shoot a wide open 3, very much unlike even his freshman year when he didnt hesitate to pull it. Faye kept us in the game tonight you'd have to say. We just don't have enough firepower. I don't see it getting better next year record wise at least without Williams, and also Fayes athleticism in games like this. Thats what is discouraging about flat games at home like tonight. not sure why it was flat but it was.

Twice we started to get on a mini-run...two, three baskets in a row...and twice, after Faye made back to back plays-one after a play inside and one after a three-Doh subbed him out.

As was accurately pointed out by someone sitting near me, Clinkscales can't handle the ball well. Too short for a 2, not enough ball handling skills for a point. Hope we get the kid from Vegas.
