The stadium was built because we joined the WAC. Ownby didn't have enough seating capacity to meet WAC requirements.

SMU played in the Cotton Bowl because it joined the WAC. The stadium was built to provide on-campus football, along with the misguided notion that it was all that was needed for SMU to succeed.

SMU played in the Cotton Bowl because Doak Walker put butts in seats to start with and over the years the on campus stadium became a dump so when it was need again it would have cost more to update than a new field.

The only thing that would cause a re-examination of this thought would be if the Ivy League gets back into division 1. Right now, there is growing pressure to do just that but where this leaves bcs-BS opportunities for both the Ivy & the Magnolia remains to be seen. A lot of money is in that ivy so you never really know how it may play out until or if it happens.

Yes, I am fully aware of SMU's history with the Cotton Bowl. What was being discussed, however, was where SMU played decades later in the WAC and why. Unless, that is, you think SMU played in the Cotton Bowl in the 1990's because the masses were coming to see Doak Walker.

Even if the Ivy League used its influence to dismantle the BCS system, it would simply result in this "Magnolia League" being one of the worst conferences in a world without the BCS. This "Magnolia" concept is nothing but a leap backwards, with or without the BCS.

Totally agree with you there - it would be BAD.
I don't think the IVY would try to bury the bcs-BS but push their way in - if they could. The best way is to remove this cancer they call the bcs-BS but everybody is trying to join it instead of destoying it.
