Propose a Coach...It's time for the new 'reality show' on www.ponyfans.com called 'Propose a Coach!' Your job, as an SMU basketball fan, is to name a coach to replace Dement. All proposals will be considered. :hmm: And no proposal will be considered ridiculous. C'mon...NAME 'EM NOW!!!!!! :whistling:
Re: Propose a Coach...I already said Sean Sutton but who knows if he is waiting for daddy's job.
Re: Propose a Coach...Larry Eustachy, formerly of Iowa State. The guy hung out at a college party and had his picture taken with some fat chicks. So what. Great coach who deserves a second chance. Didn't come close to what Mike Price did, and Price got a second chance.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: Propose a Coach...Derek Harper or Rolando Blackman -- both worked under Big [deleted] Motta and could recruit local kids and perhaps draw some fan support to Moody.
Re: Propose a Coach...Are any of Bobby Knight's former team managers available? Seems to have worked out for the Nets so far. lol
Re: Propose a Coach...Chris Beard, Assistant Mens Basketball Coach at Texas Tech University. Has been an assistant at NTSU under Vic Trilli, successful head coach at a Kansas college (name escapes me), and currently at TT. Pretty young, but experienced and energetic. From the Dallas area (Irving High) and well-known in recruiting circles. Well worth checking him out.
Re: Propose a Coach...I'm on record as saying Larry Eustachy or Matt Doherty. I think at SMU Doherty would be the better fit though given Eustachy's baggage.
Doherty is a bright mind and certainly has a lot to prove after his departure from UNC. He would bring a lot of credibility to the program and he remains close to Dean Smith. My guess is that Doherty knows that his next chance os very important and he can't risk squnadering it. I am aware that he has a reputation, but in a world where George Leary, Mike Price, and Bobby Knight get 2nd chances, Doherty deserves one as well. SMU needs a shot in the arm and Doherty OR Eustachy could provide that.
Re: Propose a Coach...Please not Sam the Eagle. If you can't win with the players, fans, support Carolina had and have all sorts of player morale problems, how in the heck are you gonna win here?
Re: Propose a Coach...Doh Boy ain't gonna come to SMU, his ego won't allow it. Jimmy Tubbs is our man. He deserves a chance, he fits our profile and our budget.
Re: Propose a Coach...<img src="http://files.blog-city.com/files/aa/2727/p/f/sam_the_eagle.jpg" alt=" - " /> ? WHERE'S MY KETCHUP?!?!?!
Re: Propose a Coach...Jimmy Tubbs is a good guy.... but he's NOT our man.
Re: Propose a Coach...I don't think Jimmy is God's gift to coaching, but I respectfully disagree. He is our man. Give him a relatively short contract and see what he can do. I guarantee you Jimmy as the head coach could recruit 3 times as well in Dallas than he could as an assistant. Bring Jimmy in here, and watch UT and others worry about their stranglehold on Dallas. Within one year, Jimmy would have a commitment that would knock your jock off. Matt Doherty and other pipe dreams aside, tell me what other assistant thats out there is gonna come in here and make a splash.

Re: Propose a Coach...Because he won at Notre Dame before that. Also, he didn't have the players at UNC. He brought in some outstanding recruits that are sophs right now and starting to develop. The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: Propose a Coach...Yeah, he went to the NIT in 1 year as the head coach at Notre Dame, inheriting McLeod's players, including All American Troy Murphy. And then jumped to Carolina where he had such schleps as:
Raymond Felton Jackie Manuel Sean May Rashad McCants Jawad Williams Kris Lange Brian Bersticker Jason Capel Brian Morrison Melvin Scott Joseph Forte Julius Peppers Ronald Curry Brendan Haywood Hey, not all of these are All-American, but most if not all are better than the players we get at SMU. His first season at unc was good, with Bill Gutheridge's players, then a number of them transfered, declared early, or decided to be football only in large part because Doh had player-relationship problems. He then went 8-20 and then 19-16. So other than the fact that he went to unc and was hired by unc when everyone and their brother refused the job at unc (remember the Larry Brown, Carl, Roy Williams fiasco in 2000?), what on his resume makes him a prime candidate? I'm not saying he won't someday make a fine coach, I just don't understand why having once coached at some name school automatically makes him (or anyone else that was canned for lack of production) such catch.
