We need a PG

Post by Pony_Fan »

What is the latest. I know we are possible for Lloyd - who are the other ones we are in the hunt for?

4 or 5 others, only two of which are public. One of those guys is Calvin Newell.

DWill is becoming more of a PG as this season winds down. We really are going to miss him next year, but a "dish 1st, shoot only when necessary to spread the D" guy would be nice to find.

agree. He had some careless turnovers, but also made some good decisions toward the end. I'm concerned about him handing his keys over to a true freshman.

McCoy's return and effectiveness next season is the wildcard here.

We just need one primary ball-handler w/McCoy, Pats, Walker, Haynes and Clink returning. We have enough secondary handlers, just need someone to set the table

I don't see Haynes as a PG but McCoy or Clink might step into that role; both have 3 pt range but both also appear to have the ability to penetrate a defense and if they would just think dish 1st and get your teammates involved...Haynes appears to have 3 skills but the body/size of a 2 guard

Haynes also has a 49% FT average. Not a good thing for your primary ball handler.

Clink cannot handle the ball well enough to be a pg

I wasn't saying Haynes or Clink should run the point, just that they have decent enough ball skills to help w/pressure. In Clink's case, he can set the O on occasion, same w/Walker. Watching McCoy vs pressure this year wasn't pretty, but I'm interested to see if he can transition to point. Pats has capable handle, and can really pass, so he has the ability to help as well. Still need a primary ball handler

That's true - he could end up being the point guard by default next year, but I worry about his quickness and explosiveness. With an injury like his, it's often the year AFTER a player comes back before all of that returns at 100 percent.

what games are you watching? clinkscales the ability to penetrate the defense? he is a decent shooter when left open...cant really create a shot for himself...can not penetrate...most of the time looks like he wants to get the ball out of his hands when has pressure on him

I had based those comments on some early season appearances; I agree that of late, Clink appears content to hang around the 3 pt arc and if guarded, to get the ball back to Williams as quickly as he can.

An experienced JUCO pg should be the priority
along with a freshman pg to groom.
Don't fool yourself thinking a true freshman pg
is going to be a difference maker for this unbalanced roster.
A solid freshman pg can contribute but not the missing
piece many think solves the problem. Many problems
to fix.

why would we sign Pats and not his all-conference teammate? Is it overthinking things to think we should seriously tap into a bigtime juco program that's just up 75?
