JUCO All-America to visit SMU?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?No...what he is saying is that ...there is a CHANCE.
![]() ...or perhaps what he is really saying is that...there IS a chance. ![]() ...or... SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?I know people hate to hear this, but check the rivals site. He has been providing good information on this process and today has quotes from Kenny himself.
Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?I broke down and got Rivals access so that I could get an update. Some bozo already had ponyboy taken. But now I can gloat about what I know that the rest of you don't.
Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?The guy's been 100% clean since his one - admittingly, very serious - slip up. Why not take a chance on the guy - keeping him on an INCREDIBLY short leash? One act of bad behavior, missed classes etc. and he's gone? With all the criminals on texas, florida etc., what does SMU really have to lose? Best case, the guy is completely clean and gives our program a HUGE boost, worst case - he causes trouble and we boot him. I don't see how it really hurts SMU to give a guy a second chance. Do we really have that pristine of a reputation that this guy is really going to impact us? I seriously doubt it.

Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?I've always thought the JUCO All-American teams were kind of bogus-note these are really All California JUCO. I'm sure the Texas JUCOs and Kansas JUCOs put out a different teamWho cares though really-for him to achieve what he did sitting on the sidelines for 5-6 years is an incredible achievement.

Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?
RIght...and fwiw here's how the California folk justify calling their list "all american"...I'm surprised there are only 69 jucos outside of California: Note: With 71 teams, California has the majority of the nation’s 140 JC/CC football teams. The slightly smaller National JC Athletic Association also selects a JC All-America from its 69 member teams, none in California.
Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?California has always been the unquestioned leader in JUCO talent-the second biggest state for JUCOs is Texas but for comparision the Rivals Database has 41 Texas JUCO commitments to 151 for California JUCOs(both numbers have a few non-Division 1A commitments thrown in)

Re: JUCO All-America to visit SMU?I don't know any of these kids on the roster or being recruited. I do know we have kids on the roster with kids; I know we have kids that have had run ins with the law in the past; I know we have kids that have had varrying levels of adversity in their lives, although not on the level of what this kid did in the past.
I evaluate this "kid" and his past solely on whether I think he will be an embarassment to the university I care about. This kid has had adversity in spades. He somehow preserved his ability in prison; he earned his degree. He went to Juco and got injured and missed his first season. Then, he finally got to play football after six years and was a star. Apparently, during these two years, he did keep his grades up and his nose clean. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, it appears that the SMU coaches believe in this kid. Based on that, my belief is that this "kid" will not embarass the Mustangs, should he become one of them. Accordingly, I say, "Bring him on. Let the kid play. Make him a Mustang." At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
