Euless Trinity

Postby PonyPower » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:43 am

Is it time to try again to open some kind of a pipeline? When Coach Jones and his staff were hired, the presumption by many was that SMU would establish a stronghold on the Trojans' top prospects, or at least those of Samoan and Tongan descent, because of the relationship Coach Jones and his staff have been able to build with Polynesian players. Trinity grad Youri Yenga is now getting ready for his senior season, while his younger brother, Jonathan, and RB Tevin Williams supposedly are interested. Trinity annually is one of the premier programs in North Texas, and if we can start plucking top players out of there, it can only help our on-the-rise program.

They normally have some really big, strong linemen. It would be great to see us really get in good with the coaches over there and start landing one or two players from Trinity each year.

Suleiman Masumbuko
Do a ping on him and look at his size and then the gallery of pictures. This young man could put on some LB's his freshman year and look even better.
Go get him coaches. Oh, and two more

this whole "pipeline" thing is a concept i wish would go away. even a big powerhouse hs program may have zero to a few d1 players any given year. kids go to schools because their parents are alums and took them to fb games there for years until they became fans, their girlfirend or best friend is going there, their first choice (big 12) didn't offer, mom and dad can get there for a game easy, they had a fun visit, the school has a good music, business, or basket weaving program, and a thousand other reasons.

every recruiter tries to build relationships with hs coaches based on any ties they have. jj may have gotten together and sliced hands and mixed blood with the tongan kings of the tropics, but it isn't high on any eighteen year olds list of why he wants to go to school at smu, or anywhere else.

pipeline? wishful thinking. reality? it's a silly concept.

I agree for the most part. Are there ANY schools that predominantly send their kids to one place or the other, with the possible exception to the rule being physical proximity. Kids may influence their HS friends but I think the effect is really overblown. Good question for Stallion.

The good news is they are taking us seriously. Some schools and the coaches can give negative talk to kids and parents so it may not be a pipeline, but being acceptable and all of the D-1's at a HS taking SMU seriously is all good.
