Anyone know if this is true/legit?

Postby The Q » Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:51 am

I got the following e-mail, and I'm wondering if it's a hoax. Anyone know?

Google has done it again...

Not everybody has On Star etc. Or a phone book handy. Look what Google is doing................

Here is something you will want to have and use! I still remember when the telephone company charged me $1.50 to get a phone number from information.

Here's a number worth putting in your cell phone or your home phone speed dial: 1-800-goog-411 or 1-800-4664-411 This is an awesome service from Google and it's free -- great when you are driving on the road with no pen pencil or paper handy. Don't waste your money on information calls and don't waste your time manually dialing the number. I am driving along in my car and I need to call the golf course and I don't know the number. I hit the speed dial for information that I have programmed.

The voice at the other end says"City & State." I say" GarlandTexas ." He says"BusinessName or Type of Service." I sayGarland Golf Course." He says"Connecting" and Garland Golf Course answers the phone.

How great is that? This is nationwide and it is absolutely free!

Click on the link below and watch the short clip for a quick demonstration.

My favorite I Phone app is Google. You click and do a voice search pulls up what your looking for via Google click the number to call as well as the map and option to GPS from your current location

Ozonas's Dallas TX ------------ Bing

Voice recognition has came along ways in the last few years. It is the same technology the phone company uses

Yes, it is legit. There's also a number you can call that goes to Auburn University where they answer any question you have. Don't pay the money for KGB.

what is the number for the Auburn U hotline that will answer my questions? KGB is too expensive after so many calls.

From NBC:

Ask a question … any question!
Auburn University’s Foy Information Line, 334-844-4244
Students at Auburn University in Alabama, armed with the Internet and, as a last resort, reference books, will answer any question you can conceive of, 24 hours a day, Monday to Thursday (during the school year). The hot line started in the 1950s as a resource for students at Auburn who were trying to locate campus services and find information about grades or course schedules. Over the years, it has evolved into a no-holds-barred information database. It is one of the nation’s longest-running services of its kind. It’s technically the “Foy Information Line,” named after the Foy Student Union building that the phone service operates from, and it is free for anyone to call. They’ve gotten questions from callers as far away as Australia, about questions ranging from how many Oreos it would take to circle the globe to what’s the longest nontechnical word in the English language? It’s perfect for when you can’t get to Google. The hot line operates 24 hours during the week and until 9 p.m. on weekends.
