As soon as the mens squad returns from the conference tourney in Tulsa, Reggie Geary should be named the next HC @ SMU. I mentioned his name earlier this season when the fire Doh chatter had reached its peak. Reggie has the resume to back it up. He is a charismatic leader who has already connected with Papa Dia & the others on the team. He was a successful college player @ Arizona, & he has a pro background. In addition to his leadership abilities, he can recruit. I think he would be a great fit working with the DISD coaches as well.
My recommendation is to promote Geary. Keep Lutz & Brown as assistants. Hire Sherman Dillard who resides in Frisco, Tx.as the other assistant. Then sign Sherman's son, Ben Dillard @ Frisco. I would also immediately offer 6'10 Grosselle from Plano West.
This would be an exciting, fresh approach to mens hoops @ SMU.
I'm telling you right now, its just a matter of time before someone comes after Geary. If Steve O is smart he will make the move immediately. Geary has everything it takes to be a successful HC.

there are a ton of ideas I've hated more. Geary is a really good evaluator of talent, really good. I'm also a fan of Sherm, he gives that staff some head coach savvy, not to mention his son. Groselle should have been offered yesterday. Papawasamustang for director of ops!

I suppose Coach Geary will be a good head coach one day, but Coach D isn't going anywhere this year.

For what its worth the players all seem to like Reggie alot. He knows what he's doing and connected well with the team. I'm not sure if this isnt a little early in his career to be the head man, though.

Find me a June Jones in college hoops that will come to SMU for half a mil. Doesn't exist

Good call on Reggie Geary, but Orsini likes established D-1 coaches at the helm of the major sports. Maybe promote Geary right away to Assistant Head Coach with Doh for next year, and if Doh stubs his toe, Geary now has HC experience, and THEN he takes over?

I can find you plenty of coaches that can chalk up 4 straight loosing seasons for a lot less than half a mil.

constructive post. You guys make it seem like SMU is a great paying hoops job.

I wouldn't mind Geary at the helm. I also wouldn't mind Lutz at the helm. I just don't see it happening...ever.
