The Countdown Begins...Talk heating up today in Tulsa, Oklahoma about Coach Billy Gillispie being named the new HC for SMU Basketball Program. I spent the morning with a few well connected individuals that gave me the run down on how it's going to pan out. At this point it basically comes down to BCG choosing SMU over a few other serious options. I asked if any assistants would be retained and the only name given was Reggie Geary as a possibility. Jeremey Cox from USF and another assistant with recruiting connections to the Midwest would round out the staff. I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome soon.
Re: The Countdown Begins...imo, this would be good for SMU basketball, even though I liked the Doherty hiring originally. I think Doh should only be given one more year, at most, to see improvement, but if we can get BCG now, i'm all for it.
Re: The Countdown Begins...of course, now if this doesn't happen, you will be blamed for leaking the information and causing us not to hire him.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
Re: The Countdown Begins...HAHAHAHA!
Well played, abezontar. Right or wrong, I don't think a change is made this year.
Re: The Countdown Begins...seems very doubtful to me for alot of reasons, but I do have to say Gillespie looks like a hire right up Orsini's alley, ala George O'Leary. I wouldn't be the least bit surprise either way, meaning we keep Doh or hire another fallen from grace big name. What i would be surprised at is if Orsini took a chance on a no name, up and comer, even though that very well might be the best way to finally go.
Re: The Countdown Begins...God this would make me happy...Watch SMU run the table into the tourney and not allow Orsini to make a move...would be typical SMU luck.
Re: The Countdown Begins...I want some of what you are smoking...I know, you were just worse casing it, but still..."don't Bogart that joint." ![]() ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: The Countdown Begins...I just want to recruit and win at a ridiculous rate
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
