Rice Owls Won't Leave TX for Football Until Oct. 23rd!!!

There's nothing quite like home.

Rice released its 2010 football schedule Tuesday, and the Owls don't leave the Lone Star State until Oct. 23 for a road game at Central Florida.

The season opens with Texas, which should be a preseason top-10 team, on Sept. 4 at Reliant Stadium. The Owls then head to North Texas on Sept. 11, followed by back-to-back games at Rice Stadium against Northwestern (Sept. 18) and Baylor (Sept. 25).

On Oct. 2, Conference USA competition begins as Rice hosts SMU. A week later, the Owls travel to UTEP.

Be sure to circle Oct. 16 on the calendar — it's homecoming and reunion weekend, and it's also when the Battle for the Bayou Bucket will be waged. Houston heads to Rice Stadium for the annual clash between the rivals.

Rice has a bye week Oct. 30. Play resumes on the road the first two weeks of November — at Tulsa on Nov. 6 and at Tulane on Nov. 13. And then, to close out the regular season, it's back-to-back games at home against East Carolina (Nov. 20) and UAB (Nov. 27).

Six teams on the schedule — UT (lost), Northwestern (lost), SMU (WON!), UH (lost), East Carolina (lost) and Central Florida (lost) — played in bowl games last season. And six of the 12 games are at Rice Stadium, with another at Reliant Stadium.
