has anybody actually seen a report or heard from reliable sources that he may have difficulty qualifying-I haven't and yet its been repeated with no link whatsoever several times.

Just from living around the area and knowing the school he attended...It won't be super easy but as long as the test scores arrive he should be ok...

It's an uphill battle for Fab in '10, but still possible. PG was a priority position in '11 as well, so worst case scenario, that ship has been addressed. FWIW, we're stiill after Loyd in a big way. Fab isn't the only kid(s) in '10 that are going to come down to the wire. The situation is more fluid then people realize. The good news is that our 3rd and 4th scenarios now, are better then our first or second options were even a year ago. Lutz/Geary/Brown are becoming real bright spots.

I would suggest that when talking about a kid's future we shouldn't speculate about his eligiblility "based on what school he went to". This stuff gets passed around the internet about 50 times. There are plenty of great students at underperforming high schools. Now I have no problem citing a story reporting admissions by a player, low GPA or core GPA, retaking the SAT, double signing with a JUCO but it really shouldn't be reported unless you have that type of solid basis.

I think making making a statement on potential eligibility concerns is fine as long as there is a basis for it. It is also appropriate to make a statement "based on what school he went to". In this case there is a well documented history of significant problems in the Chicago Public School system. Knowing this and knowing the school that he went to, it is fair to have some concerns over his eligibility. Having concerns over his eligibility is in no way making a statement on how intelligent the student is. In fact, he very well could be a great student, but have difficulty with eligibility based on the classes he took, the number of hours he has or his attendance. Many CPS student stay away from school because of the incredible amount of gun violence. Knowing all of this about the school he went to and the area where his school is located provides one with a solid basis to articulate concerns over his eligibility.

You guys are getting caught up in being politically correct. Fabyon has overcome more then is imaginable in his short life, so it's just whatever grades & tests left. Don't get caught up in the year, understand that we're adding ballers. Hoping for '10, not dissapointed in '11

that scholarship offer was rescinded because he wasn't any good. Same with Jonathan Sloan (3 ppg as Junior at Texas St.). Same with Julius Omoniurhie(Francis) who later signed with Winthrop but doesn't appear in their stats . Didn't have a thing to do with academics. Last time I checked on Clarke averaged 2 ppg at a Florida JC. Three bullets avoided and great testament to why its often a waste of bench space to sign project big men from high school. Add Kwiatoski to the equation too. Not a great track record-at some point you can start drawing some conclusions

Good points and well said. The inner city of Chicago is a rough, tough place and academics aren't looked upon fondly by the fellow students. So if he is good student and a great baller, we have really found a gem
I have heard he is really tight with his mother and she keeps him in check, so thats a good thing. He has a tat about him momma that reminds him to stay straight...love the kids game from the clips I have seen and the write ups about him.

When Fabyon was 6, his pregnant Mom went to go buy the family a dog. Upon arriving to buy the dog, she was gangraped and murdered, throat cut. Much like anyone w/this sort of event in their past, he's had his ups and downs in a tough hood. To his credit, he's kept it straight & narrow & doing what he can to get his transcripts right. The tattoo you reference is the Virgin Mary crying w/his Mom's name incorporated in some way. As you said, it's a reminder and keeps him tracked

I am glad Fabyon has come this far, its sounds like he has experienced a remarkable past and has already overcome some significant obstacles. I am excited about the prospects of seeing him play for SMU.

wow, your heart goes out to a kid with a story like that. frankly we havent had many real hard luck cases at SMU over the years. Hopefully, he will use SMU to change his life and go farther than he ever thought he would. And I don't mean the NBA, not many 5'8 guards there.

He's the kind of kid that attracts other recruits b/c of his cred. 10 times easier to grab someone out of Chicago when you say Fab is your PG. He's a barbershop favorite in Chicago.
