Seating Changes, Downgrades?

Postby ponyboy » Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:11 pm

Did anyone here lose their seats and/or get a seating downgrade due to the new seating priority method? I got exactly the same seats in Sec. 106, row 8.

No one lost their seats or was downgraded due to the priority points, everyone was offered the exact seats they had previously. The only way anyone could lose their seats is if they decided not to pay the (increased) required donation for those seats, but that is separate from the priority points.

Thanks. That's been explained 4,322 times. Are some people just not getting the memos?

So the donation for the seats is just a price increase. Got it. What are priority points and what do they do for you?

Priority points help you when you want to upgrade to some (open) seats and someone else wants to upgrade to the same (open) seats. The person with more priority points gets the seats.

Yeah. If you could just go ahead and make sure you do that from now on,
that will be great. And Uh, I'll go ahead and make sure you get another
copy of that memo Mmmm, Ok?

Similarly they could also matter if you wanted to downgrade seats, if say you did not want to pay the increased donation and the section you wanted to move to had more demand than seats available.

Correct but when was the last time demand exceeded supply for SMU football tickets?

Priority points? What are those? How can I get them? Will the university be telling us how many we have? Where are my pants? Who's this Peruna character? I've heard there's a list of 2010 recruits somewhere. Can you point to where it might be?

I'm not a tax expert but won't this also decrease the amount we can deduct from our income tax in 2010 tax year?. What is it-if donations to the university goes in part for seating priority then you can only deduct 75 or 80% of the amount of the seating license. So last year if you paid a minimal amount for priority seating it really wouldn't affect your deduction near as much as this year if you paid the $500 to retain your seat priority. Any tax experts that can confirm.

All I know is that a few years ago they did away with the free season ticket for lettermen. After a little uproar and after some of us had already bought our tickets, they determined they would continue one more year of free. So those of us that had already paid, were credited with a free season ticket the next year. We also had the Mustang Club donation reduced by the cost of the ticket. So I would imagine you are on to something.

I don't buy that. Exactly how does one put a dollar amount value on seating priority and how much is that worth to the guy with a priority number of 2,499 or more? Now if they gave you a free parking spot that would have a tangible value.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

The amount of the contribution that is deductible is 80% when the contribution is considered for seat priority. If you buy 4 end zone seats and your contribution is $1000 the full amount is deductible at this time. Should they decide to make a donition requirment for those seats only 80% would be dedible. If you can get any seat in the house no matter your contribution level then the 80% is not a factor.

I believe the Athletic Dept is setting the stage for what they ancipate to be an increased demand for tickets.
