I'm not a rivals subscriber, but from looking at the home page from time to time it seems like we are recruiting a lot of prospects from California. I like that. Many out-of-state schools have built their programs on California talent (see Oregon, Boise State, etc.). It also looks like our staff is spending a lot of time in Louisiana. While I always agreed with Bennett's schtik that you can build a program at SMU just recruiting in Texas within x miles of campus, I like the fact that our current staff is stretching a little and looking at other talent pools.

JJ got a significant portion of his recruits from California while he was head coach of Hawaii. Hawaii football games were available on Fox Sports in California in the late-night time slot, so some of the recruits could have watched his Hawaii teams play many games.

Unfortunately for Hawaii, the WAC's TV deal changed from Fox Sports to ESPN and the late night broadcasts on Fox were eliminated. It was nice for Hawaii fans in Southern California to get all the games for free...
