Outstanding article-one of the best I've ever read at getting to the heart of the scandal and assigning blame exactly at the feet of those that deserved it. The definition of "lack of institutional control" for so many of you that don't seem to be able to grasp such a concept.

BTW nobody ever questioned Ron Meyer or Bobby Collins when they wanted something done either just ike good little Mustang Club members. Just like those 60 Mustang Club donors who contributed to the $400,000 slush fund.

If we are truly trying to move past this chapter in our history, why is our own paper trying to drive us back in there? Can't we just give everyone a copy of "A Payroll to Meet" and move on?

Can we beat this to death anymore than it already has been? I do not understand the DC Comics obsession with this. So, the trustees are not transparent enough, so lets revisit what this lead to 25 years ago. Is that the angle?

If these students would have taken "History of Cultural Institutions" which includes a two-week crash course on how the scandal and death penalty went down, they wouldn't be so "shocked, appaled and outraged."

CalallenStang,
With today's students, kids or whatever you want to call them, if it did not happen in thier lifetime, it does not exist. Sad..

Bingo! SMU deserved exactly what it got. Whether other schools since have been equally deserving but haven't gotten the DP is a seperate question, but irrelevant to the SMU case. Ancient history though. SMU has moved on and is a very different place in many, many ways than it was in 1986.

This is, indeed, old [deleted]. I've memorized it. Don't think about it. If someone insists on bringing this up, how 'bout something new/different -- a round table discussion with Meyer, Collins, Hitch, Dickerson, Clements, James, car dealers, trustees, Bootsie Larsen and anybody else you want to invite - hook up everybody to a polygraph and serve up shots of truth serum before you start asking questons. Otherwise, shut your word hole.
