"Dallas' Area Team"The Cowboys are "America's Team."
SMU? It's "Dallas' Area Team," according to the DMN. That's where SMU was tossed in Sunday's college spring football round-up, right there with (and below) North Texas - at the bottom of the page.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"In their article on Mc Coy and Shipley being drafted in the third round, Sander's being drafted ahead of them was almost in fine print...maybe the DMN is no longer the Dallas Area paper?
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"The job of any media entity that charges for its product — i.e. newspapers, magazines, some websites, newsletters, etc. — is to sell their product, not report news. The DMN knows there are more potential newspaper-buying UT alums in DFW than there are SMU alums, so UT always will get more coverage. It's the same thing with the commercials for ESPNDallas.com that they flash on SportsCenter — when they show the skyline of Dallas, whose images usually are splashed across the buildings? Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Romo, sometimes Mike Modano, and then either Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford. Look, if a million University of Alaska alums suddenly relocated to Dallas, you can bet your last dime we'd get a season preview of the Nanooks' upcoming hockey season. It's not that they hate SMU — they're just doing their job, which is to sell papers, even at the cost of what's going on locally.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"Hey, we were listed BEFORE TCU. Maybe that's a good omen for the season.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"
Except that TCU is in Fort Worth and people over there sure let you know the difference. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Heard it all before, Mr. Journalism. So how is having SMU's spring mention ABOVE the Big 12 South review going to hurt UT readers' female anatomy? It wouldn't. I'm not calling for necessarily MORE SMU coverage than UT. I get that. But the hometown team deserves a place of import on the page, that's all. UT fans would continue to buy the fricking paper.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"Hard to say what is more beaten into the ground around here...the griping about the DMN or Dale Hansen.
The Big XII teams and the area teams were all listed alphabetically in their respective breakdowns. There is no mass conspiracy to screw over SMU. But if a persecution complex keeps you going, then continue to read into every little thing each Dallas media outlet does. ![]()
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"
yeah, and the responses to simply pointing out another example of the DMN's odd approach to SMU are pretty beaten down too. Never said there was a CONSPIRACY. ![]()
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"The Big 12 were listed by alpha. Then non Big twelve were listed by alpha. Not too exciting a put down unless it was a slow news day.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"I would love to see a website devoted to Dallas football. Section 1 would include photos and information about Cowboys, Dallas Texans, and SMU Mustangs history. Profiles of the greats. Section 2 would focus on honoring (every week) local high school players who have exceptional friday nights. This would be a nice way of introducing some of the local outstanding talent to SMU football history and it might build some home town pride among young guys who would be educated on the option of playing college ball in their hometown.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"I do believe that the DMN will continue to upgrade its reporting on SMU. Kate was present at every spring practice (I believe) which shows financial commitment from the paper. All in all, daily reports of spring practice is not going to be too exciting, anywhere.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"Fort Worth Star Telegram has only been giving equal footing to the frogs in the past two years compared to UT. All it took was a couple of top 10 rankings and numerous bowls over the past ten years. There is room for both.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"
Same way your female anatomy was hurt when SMU was not on the front page? I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: "Dallas' Area Team"
Hey, good to hear from you again, jt. How was Boys Town?
