Re: Super Conferences - CBSI came across this article recently, but did not consider it intelligent enough to link.
The true problem this article encounters is that it deems all teams equal, only grouping them by geography. As though the Pac-10 would ever reduce itself to having San Diego State. Already having two major universities in Los Angeles, SDSU is irrelevant. That is but one of the many asinine predictions made in this article. The extent of this absurdity is such that this entire article should simply be dismissed as making any intelligent contribution to the discussion of conference realignment, and should instead be seen as yet another piece of evidence as to what is allowed to pass as "sporting news." Its author is either stupid or delusional. Far East Conference

Re: Super Conferences - CBSLou Holtz adds his two cents. I like the Conference vs. Conference idea in the second week of the FB season:

Re: Super Conferences - CBSTony Barnhart of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution had TCU and SMU to the Big XII to replace Nebraska and Missouri (who will be in 16-team Big 10)...have to love that SMU is getting looks by the media, even if it means nothing.

Re: Super Conferences - CBSThat would be our ideal scenario. You'd think we'd have to close the horseshoe to even be considered.
Re: Super Conferences - CBS
If that was needed, we would be pouring concrete by this weekend and be a host at Jerry's World, when needed. Pony Up
Re: Super Conferences - CBSFor those of you would are looking for a rational scenario (more mathematcial in design), here is one way for the Big Ten/Eleven, which is likely to be "first mover", to create its preferred approach to become a conference of sixteen:

Re: Super Conferences - CBSAll we have to do is pledge to contract to close the horseshoe as a requirement -that and complete the Moody upgrades would be an absolute minimum requirement - plus add some womens sports, possibly add baseball, and lastly a large cash payment in the millions would be a guess. All of that could be rasied pretty quickly at SMU as opposed to spme other spots. Can you imagine Rice or Houston coming up with 100 million requirements? Neither can I.
If the super conferences want to go to 16 teams because they get more then a 30% increase in TV money then they will do it and we will have a better then 50/50 shot. (they will be replacing 2 plus adding 4 - i think we get the nod if they have to find 6 teams). If they stay at 12-14 because the TV dough increase is less then 30% then we have a way lower chance then 50/50. The big state schools do already deliver DFW - but not nearly as deeply or with as strong a demograhic -and the corporate money that both SMU and to a lesser extent TCU bring (or could bring in the right conference) is important. The (Big 12) will be weighing that vs adding new but much smaller markets (El Paso, New Mexico, Tulsa, Northern Louisiana, etc...). We could pay for out entire entry fee by raising the cost of a visitor ticket for the UT game when they find out there are only 5k visitor seats.
