In response to MustangIcon's challenge

Post by Texasscout96 »

MustangIcon seems to believe that I am lying about my experience as a football evaluator and scout. In a post yesterday he called me a "queen" and implied that everything I have ever said on this board was either wrong or an embarrassment.

I am not going to spar with him as that would be childish and I will not do that. He asked for my "resume" so I thought I'd answer his challenge just to show that I am not a liar.

After graduating from high school I was offered a student position in SMU's athletic recruiting office and athletic compliance office working under Forrest Gregg. I worked in that capacity for 4 years of my undergraduate year, then I was offered a graduate assistant position by former coach Clovis Hale. During those 5 years I worked very closely with Bill Weidner and Tom Rossley to hold recruiting weekends during the season and recruiting season.

In my junior year at SMU I became friends with several NFL scouts (with the Chiefs, Rams, Bucs and Oilers/Titans). I was offered an internship by Lamar Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs. During that internship I worked on Lynn Stiles and Terry Bradway's staff as an intern. At the end of my internship I was asked to scout college players in the south/southwest region and report back to the Chiefs scouting staff. I performed this work for 2.5 years.

During this time, SMU coach Tommy Adams moved on to the University of Kentucky under Hal Mumme. Coach Adams contacted me and set up an interview for a position in the athletic recruiting office at UK. I decided not to accept this position because I had an offer to go into corporate America for more money.

During my time at SMU I helped to recruit Mercury Hall, Calvin Robinson, Chris Sanders, Donte Womack, Max Munn, Chris Bordano and others.

While with the Chiefs I scouted players such as Jimmy Herndon, Trezelle Jenkins, Mick Rossley (while on campus), Reggie Tongue, Zach Thomas, Greg Black, Jimmye Hitchcock and some others if you need more names.

It is true that scouting is an inexact science. But I am NOT lying about my background.

The truth is that MustangIcon is insecure and angry because I was upset about the sudden raise in ticket prices for SMU football tickets. So instead of being mature about it, he decided to attack my credibility and attempt to make me the villain on this board.

I am choosing to respond to his challenge, but I am not going to fight. I don't doubt who I am or where I have been. I have the pictures, momentos and friendships to this day.

I am friends with some very cool college and NFL coaches that I am proud to know. That to me is SO valuable.

If I'm not welcome at this board because of MustangIcon's accusations, please let me know.

All of the SMU coaches I worked with were awesome. Coach Adams is a great guy!

Thanks RGVPony. I appreciate that. Apparently some people don't realize that I am a Mustang too and we should support each other rather than tear each other down.

Worked at McDonalds once for 2 days @ $1.85 an hour. They said would need to hurry it up and squirt the mustard in the middle of the bun. I told them that we were not a match and quit ha ha

Texas Scout,

Keep posting. It's nice to read something from someone with your background.

When anyone's ego gets to be bigger or more important than their comments is when we get in trouble on this board. Sure hope no one's going to ask for my resume before I'm allowed to post. Certainly, some members have sources and experiences that allows them to offer ideas that only that knowledge can provide. However, presumed knowledge or experience does not trump the purpose of the board, which is to be a lively exchange of ideas. I think that's the personality of boards in general. If you don't want your toes stepped on or your ideas challenged don't put them out there. I don't think it ever comes as a surprise that we're not all going to always agree.

High Horse I agree with your thoughts. When I post something on this board it is because I do care about the SMU football program as an alumni. I have experienced things in my life just as we all have. If I have something that I can share with this board I like to do so. Not to boost my ego, but because I enjoy this board and want to contribute and help if I can.

Where I have a problem is when certain people call me names and call me a "queen" based on their own insecurities or disappointments. MustangIcon attacked me so I responded.

I do appreciate this board or else I would not post here.

I've watched more football games than I've ever played. Come on guys, the sword fight is a bit tiresome. If you want to trash each other, fine. My experience is that anyone who has to brag about how big their's is, usually don't have much to brag about. Let your knowledge show through what you say and know, not by golden showering others. This of course does not apply to totally burning any stray UNT, UT, or TCU fans who wander onto this site.

I'm not taking any sides on this, but for the sake of clarification, I thought MustangIcon's point wasn't that you weren't a scout, or were lying about your experience, but rather, that the quality of your posts didn't reflect your wealth of experience.

In fact, I think he went so far as to say that he expected you to re-post your resume for everyone, which you did.

Neither here nor there really, as I like to hear your take on things.
