CUSA Bowl News BreakingJune Jones may not have to worry about Liberty Bowl in some years. Reports on the internet state Big East will replace CUSA in Liberty Bowl in alternating years
I really have a feeling the Dallas football Classic will have a say in the conference champion slot. First, its a New Year's Game. Second, the opponent will be a BCS opponent from the Big 10. Plenty of Midwesterns in Texas. Third, its a big time venue that is conveniently located to all CUSA West schools. Fourth, it pays more than most non-BCS schools. I forgot the exact amount but it was a Million plus. Fifth, CUSA only has alternating years of participation like apparently the Liberty Bowl. Big 12 will be the opponent for the Big 10 in the alternate year. The best of both worlds would be to send CUSA W teams to the Classic and East teams to the Liberty Bowl. I think it could be a great deal for raising the presence of Conference USA in Texas Last edited by Stallion on Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: June Jones May Not Have Liberty Bowl Problemit looks like Big East will play in Liberty Bowl AT LEAST ONCE in a 4 year Period. I still think those years will be when CUSA Championship is from the West. It just makes sense, But CUSA also will play in the Papajohns Bowl in some years

Re: June Jones May Not Have Liberty Bowl ProblemDidn't someone report on here not to long ago that the Armed Forces Bowl would be played in Ford Stadium while renovations to Amon Carter Stadium are underway starting at the end of this year? SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: CUSA Bowl News Breakingyes I think that's the plan although I don't think its 100% certain that construction date is set.

Re: CUSA Bowl News BreakingTotally. SMU's moving mark it down, book it, whatever... either that or CUSA positions itself to be a BCS conference. Things are changing this summer, no doubt! We got "good" at exactly the right time.

Re: CUSA Bowl News BreakingOh and one of my exec. producers is producing a film on the BCS... it may all come to nothing (as us SMU fans are used to) but this is not just hearsay/what we have read online. Seriously, our fortunes could be changing heavily. Just watch....

Re: CUSA Bowl News BreakingOne of the things in our favor is, we are in the 4th largest market, that's soon to be the 3rd. This has been in the works for months, keep your fingers crossed! Pony Up!
Re: CUSA Bowl News Breaking
This is true. People need to take note of this.
Re: CUSA Bowl News Breaking
If I am wrong, I am wrong. But I have been hearing too much from too many people. My gut tells me that it's not going to happen, because my gut is used to being punched as an SMU fan. So if I could guess how it's to work out SMU won't be involved this summer, but things will happen and be in flux so next summer things might happen. All I can and will tell you is that everything will go down before July. After July everyone is locked in and things will start shaking again next summer. But, then again really if any dominoes start falling everything could hit the fan right now. July is when the fiscal year starts for universities and if you are leaving a conference you have to note it two years in advance. So, of course, if SMU does end up in a better place - or CUSA pulls back Louisville, Cincy, TCU and someone else - we won't see the BCS dream come to fruition until at the earliest 2012 or 13. However, as much as I have heard. I think the jtstang approach is advised here. I don't want to believe it just to see Texas State move to div. 1 in a couple years and go straight to the "real" div. 1, the BCS, and us on the sidelines. ![]() Eric Dickerson in Pony Excess "I've love winning man, it's like better than losing." - Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh
Re: CUSA Bowl News Breakingbad things happen when i get my hopes up....but this would be the best news ever. I hope you guys are right.
Re: CUSA Bowl News BreakingNobody knows for certain what is going to happen-not at SMU or even at Nebraska or at Texas or Texas A&M or Alabama or Florida because its not their move. The Big 10 and to lesser extent the PAC 10 are on the clock and will ignite the movement.
SMU is not well positioned for the BCS no matter what you are hearing at Cheerleading Camp. SMU might have an opening if Big 10 decides to go BIG with a 16 team Conference forcing the PAC 10 and SEC and Big East and ACC to respond. Some remnants of the MWC and Big 12 may coalesce to form a conference that might resemble a MWC level conference-it would be a better conference for SMU with some interesting Rivals. Will that conference be BCS-I don't know-it will probably depend if the mega-conferences have a majority of Division 1A schools so they have voting control of the NCAA. Let me see 4 times 16 equals 64 which is greater than 50% of the NCAA's 120 schools. Why would they want another BCS Conference to share the pie? I agree those Midwestern schools might want access to the media centers of Dallas and Houston-and we are in better shape for change in assets, leadership and synergy than we have been before-but we also could get entirely left behind by TCU and UH and SMU could be in even worse position with schools like North Texas. Lousiana Tech, Arkansas St., Middle Tennessee, Troy and the Lousiana directional schoolsetc. One of the worst things would be for UT and A&M to split to the East and West thereby opening up an expanded SEC and PAC 16 to Texas recruits. I would rather those schools go West than have the SEC invade Texas. Those Pac 10 teams are pretty far away.
