Interesting Walkon DLineman

Post by Stallion »

Scout has a report of a good looking walkon DE who is coming to SMU. He posted it in the free forum so I think everybody can access. I won't mention the name if its not. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have a highlite reel that combine all his highlites-each single play is on a separate youtube video-several of which I posted. But he looks like one of the better walkon prospects SMU has gotten in a while.

Beau Barnes, from Friendswood

It's free content. Just checked. I don't have a Scout membership but was able to access it.

Found this at something called ultimateclearlake.com:

The reports I found list him at 6-5 and anywhere from 215 to 235 pounds. Seems to have had an offer to play at Air Force.

I'd wager that our walk-ons are nearing the quality of our old scholarship players under PB (with obvious exceptions)

Compared with E.J. Drewery's senior #s he's an about the same weight, an inch or two shorter, and a step slower. On the plus side, he's had tougher high school competition and won't have to switch from offense to defense like E.J., so your point is well taken -- and E.J. was part of JJ's abbreviated recruiting class, not one of PB's.

This guy has talent and plays like an Air Force recruit. Glad he is walking on here.

just remember-a walkon player is not committed until he actually shows up in August.

Another walk on recruit who says he is coming here in the fall is talented CB David Farris from Pearland,Texas. He was recruited by several D1 schools (including A&M), but in the end the 5' 10" 156lbs. CB's weight must have been an issue with D1 coaches. Though unrated by Rivals, 3 users on his Rivals 2010 personal recruiting page rated him 5 Star. Watch his video..decent 4.5 speed, a 34" vertical leap, and for a light weight guy he is a solid hitter also...I think he can make the team after a redshirt year to get alittle bigger.

I like David Farris but I really like the fact that Robert Seals likes David Farris

No question Farris was very helpful in getting 2011 recruit Robert Seals to commit. They are both from the same high school.

If he's good enough, he'll make the team. If not, he'll still get a great education.
