Link for those who haven't seen it. Those who were quoted in the story are taking the wrong approach. The Press and SMU football/athletics have nothing to do with each other, and it's silly to blame them. It doesn't have to be an either/or thing. I think most would agree it's a good thing to have the Press remain open. But needlessly attacking athletics will make a fair amount of people roll their eyes or tune out any arguments the Press people have. ![]()
Re: SMU Press foldsI agree. What tiny fraction of a reduction in every department's budget would it take to keep the Press operating. There is always a way when there is a will to do something and I too think keeping the Press operating is important to the University. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
