Yes, you are very right. It is very easy during busy times to make you
and your kids to go items. We just didn't do it because we don't like
making money. We hate success and making people happy. We enjoy turning
down your money. Make sure you tell everyone that. With the amount of
friends that an obviously polite and understanding person like
yourself must have, I'm sure we will be out of business in no time
flat. May I help you in your to go needs and direct you to McDonalds or
Chili's which will be very happy to assist in your very important needs.

Quoting Garry Natale <[email protected]>:

Gentlemen,

Last Saturday, I had finally made the decision to take my family to
TWISTED ROOT after hearing glorious things about it and seeing it on
Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Being in the retail real estate business,
we hear a lot about different restaurants that come to the Dallas
area. With the limited time in our busy family schedule, I looked
forward to spending my money with your establishment and hoped it would
be a real "treat" for my kids.

Late Saturday afternoon I attempted to round up my family to drive to
your Richardson location from our North Carrollton home. With the
kids feeling yucky and the cold weather that had set in, I decided to
call-in my order and go pick it up, which I was willing to do because
of the rave reviews I have heard around my office. Again, I was
determined to spend my money at your restaurant even though the
circumstances were less than ideal that evening.

Upon placing my phone call (with order in hand, ready to go), I was
told by your staff that they were "too busy to take my order".
Needless to say, I was shocked and amazed, considering how restaurants
across the Metroplex are struggling for business, yet the TWISTED ROOT
was not only busy, but too busy to take my order that only required
writing it down - no table to set, no water to get, no setups to
place……..Just take the order and slide it in line to be cooked, bag
it and wait for my money. Seems like easy money to me.

Well gentlemen, that was your one and only shot and this story will be
told to every parent, potential patron & real estate broker I come in
contact with from North McKinney to SW Fort Worth when the conversation
turns to dinners plans. I am a former manager of a well-known
establishment in West End, and if this were to happen in my restaurant,
I would want to know about it; thus the reason for the email.

Regards,

Garry Natale
Girls LOVE hearing about things like my car and my season tickets. I usually try to work in what street my parents live on, just so they know where I'm coming from. That's a deal closer. Always be closing!

C'mon now. That can't be Twisted Root's real reply to the email. Still funny though.

Drove by the new location today, and noticed some people eating outside on the patio. I plan to try it out soon.

Hah.I know Garry. Nice guy and very surprised he used his business e-mail on that correspondence. I think UCR reps them and I know they don't want to run off any business these days...

Agree with the "overrated" assessment. Whatever made Twisted Root famous in Deep Ellum did not transfer to the SMU Blvd. location. My experience there was that this is a bar that happens to serve burgers, not the other way around.

The staff seemed disinterested and the burger was nothing special. Maybe if you like exotic burgers and toppings, but as a basic burger I've had lots better. And the fixin's and extras were well below-par.

And it's not like we were skeptical to begin with. We went into it expecting what we saw on "Diner's, Drive-Ins and Dives" and were sorely disappointed.

Milo's surprisingly has some pretty good food in there. not to mention $5 and $6 pitchers. Lots of fun times still to be had
